INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. The Taco® 4900 Series™ Magnetic Dirt Separator should
be installed on the return side of the boiler or terminal
heating (or cooling) unit as shown in Figure 1.
2. The Taco magnetic dirt separator should be installed in
a horizontal line in a vertical (or upright) position
(See Figure 1) with the blowdown valve pointed down
toward the oor. It will not operate properly if installed
at an angle, sideways, or upside down.
3. The Taco magnetic dirt separator may be installed
so that the ow direction is either RIGHT to LEFT
or LEFT to RIGHT.
4. The maximum allowable velocity within the
Taco magnetic dirt separator is 5 ft/sec.
5. The Taco magnetic dirt separator is intended for
installations lled with 100% water or approved
glycol solutions (Do Not Exceed 50% Glycol)
for hydronic heating or cooling systems.
6. Install the blow down valve (provided in the box)
into the 1/2” tapered threads of the separator.
Use common plumbing practices for 1/2” tapered
threads to prevent a joint leak once the system is lled.
NOTE: This is an ISO 7/1 thread, do not
install an NPT threaded valve.
NOTE: Power o the circulator before removing magnetic ring.
7. To blow out the impurities collected in the magnetic
dirt separator remove the magnetic ring (Figure 2),
place a bucket under the valve (Figure 3), open the
blow down valve for 3-5 seconds and then close it.
Replace the magnetic ring (Figure 4).
8. Please leave these instructions with the end user.
9. Taco magnetic dirt separators should be
installed by qualied professionals.

or opening the blow down valve.
