52 Configuring the Library
Applying a License Key
A license key can be purchased and applied to the library to increase the number of available slots
from 24 to 40. The license key is applied during the initial configuration of the library, and may also be
applied at any time in the future.
An instruction sheet that describes how to use the license key is provided in the accessory kit.
Contact Technical Support for more information on obtaining a license key. For contact information,
see Getting More Information or Help.
Note
The license key is composed of a maximum of five printable characters. The
license key is case-sensitive.
The license key is verified when it is applied to the library. It cannot be transferred to another library.
The license key can be entered when running the Setup Wizard. After the initial setup of your library
you can later access the Activate License configuration screens directly:
From the RMI, select Setup > License Key
From the FPI, select Menu > Setup > Activate License
The library reboots after three failed activation attempts.
Configuring Pass-Thru
Pass-Thru is used to combine two or more libraries to increase the number of available slots to above
the 40 available with one unit, and to allow the combined system to operate as one logical unit. The
bottom-most unit in the Pass-Thru system is called Master Library, and the units above are called
Add-on Libraries.
Before you start the Pass-Thru configuration, you must have a Pass-Thru kit available. A Pass-Thru
kit can be purchased from your Tandberg Data distributor. Follow the instructions given in the
Hardware Installation chapter to install the Pass-Thru kit.
To configure two or more T40+ units as a Pass-Thru system, start the Pass-Thru Wizard beginning
with the master library. Follow the directions on-screen, and when so prompted, start the Pass-Thru
Wizard on the add-on units. The Setup Wizard on the add-on units will give you the information
necessary to complete the configuration of the master library.
When the Pass-Thru system has been fully configured, both units will reboot. Insert the Pass-Thru
magazine after the system has rebooted.
The Pass-Thru settings are configured with the Setup Wizard. After the initial setup of your library, you
can later access the Pass-Thru configuration screens directly:
From the RMI, select Setup > Pass-Thru
From the FPI, select Menu > Setup > Pass-Thru
Configuring I/E Slots
I/E slots are used to import and export tape cartridges into and out of the library without disrupting
normal library operations.
The 24-slot version of the T40+ can be configured to have 0 or 3 I/E slots, and the 40-slot version or
Pass-Thru system can be configured to have 0, 3, or 8 I/E slots. A library configured with 3 I/E slots
will have the I/E slots located in the front of the lower left magazine. In a library configured with 8 I/E
slots, the entire upper left magazine will be used as an I/E station.
