70 Running the Library
Manual/Emergency Release of Magazines
In failure situations (either with the library itself, in the event of a power loss, or in situations where you
need to manually release the magazines), a manual/emergency release operation is available. To
activate the emergency magazine release feature, you must use the magazine release tool that is
fastened to the back of the library. See Figure 2. This tool must be inserted through the hole at the
bottom of each magazine, as shown in Figure 36.
Caution
Make sure you turn OFF the power before you use the manual emergency
release tool

Standby Functionality
A standby button is available on the front panel.
To activate Standby mode, press the button for a minimum of 2 seconds. The StorageLibrary will
enter a standby mode in a controlled manner. The following operations are performed before the
StorageLibrary goes into standby mode:
1. Any current StorageLibrary activities are completed.
2. The power to the tape drives is switched off.
3. The display is turned off.
4. No StorageLibrary activity is allowed until the standby button is pressed again.
5. The green LED on the front will blink with short blinks over long intervals.
6. To leave the standby mode, press the standby button for 2 seconds. The StorageLibrary will then
re-start and perform a full inventory check.
