Installation Instructions

Cut orders may be rolled face in (back rolled) on a sturdy core.
Unroll the ooring in the room and allow it to relax approximately 20 minutes.
Material must be lying completely at before tting.
Room temperature shall be between 65 °F (18 °C) and 100 °F (38 °C) before, during
and after installation.
FiberFloor® may be installed over gypsum based underlayments using the Glueless
Installation System.
Undercut door moldings and casings to allow ooring to t freely under the
molding and casing.
There is no maximum length for the glueless installation of FiberFloor®. However,
long lengths of ooring may have a tendency to bow or twist during layout or
positioning. Insure that the material is lying completely at and is aligned squarely
within the room before nal tting and/or cutting of seam.
Leave a 1/4” gap between ooring and all verticals (i.e. walls, cabinets, pipes,
etc.) When trimming oor, place a small piece of 1/4” plywood between the wall and
back of ooring to insure proper gap is achieved. Leave a 1/2” gap for oors installed
over wood substrates that have a potential of being exposed to high moisture levels
(i.e. crawl spaces) or fully adhere with a Tarkett recommended adhesive.
Do not install cabinets on top of FiberFloor® when using the Glueless
Installation System.
Do not perimeter adhere FiberFloor®.
Use Tarkett S875 Floating Seam Tape under all seams when installing over all
approved substrates.
Seams are cut using the double-cut method only. Do not straight edge and butt
seams. Once seam overlap is achieved, place strips of masking tape across the seam
to prevent shifting.
FiberFloor® may be fully adhered with a Tarkett recommended adhesive.
If an installation requires the oor to be installed in complex layouts, net t,
ash coved, installed on steps or if the ooring will be subjected to heavy caster
action exceeding the static load limit (i.e. portable diswashers, microwave carts,
wheel chairs, etc.), the ooring shall be fully adhered with an acrylic based
adhesive specially designed for a vinyl foam back oor. When installing fully
adhered, use a medium nap paint roller..
Install wood moldings or cove base around the perimeter to cover the space. Do not
nail molding through FiberFloor®. Nail into the wall.
When installing doorway transition molding, do not nail through FiberFloor®.
Seal seams with Tarkett DT-25 Seam Sealer for materials with high gloss nish and
Tarkett DT-65 Seam Sealer for materials with low gloss nish.
Carefully inspect for any fullness in the ooring. Re-trim if necessary.
INSTALLATION OPTIONS
Glueless
Full Spread (see full spread instructions for details)
PRIOR TO INSTALLATION
Carefully check ooring material for any defects. Contact your supplier immediately
if any defect is found.
Remove quarter round, baseboard molding or cove base.
Undercut doorway moldings the thickness of the ooring.
WOOD SUBSTRATES
Wood oors must be double construction with a minimum thickness of 1”, Top layer
of plywood shall be ¼” minimum thickness underlayment grade plywood. Tarkett
recommended underlayments include APA Underlayment Grade Plywood A-C, B-C or
C-C Plugged, ACCU-PLY, SurePly, TECPLY, ULAY, C.S.A. (CanPly) and Proboard.
CONCRETE SUBSTRATES
FiberFloor® may be installed over on grade, above grade or below grade concrete suboors.
Concrete oors shall be constructed in accordance with the American Concrete Institute
(ACI) 302.1 Guide for Concrete Floor and Slab Construction. Concrete shall be nished and
cured according to ACI and have a minimum compressive strength of 3500 psi. Floors must
be free of any sealers, curing, hardening or parting compounds that would adversely affect
the adhesive when using the “Full Spread” Installation System. Installation of moisture
vapor retarder is recommended prior to pouring of on or below grade slabs. Moisture vapor
transmission shall not exceed 3 lbs./1000 sq.ft./24 hours per ASTM F-1869 (Anhydrous
Calcium Chloride Test). Moisture may also be tested according to ASTM F 2170 (Standard
Test Method for Determining Relative Humidity in Concrete Floor Slabs Using in situ Probes).
When tested according to this method, the internal relative humidity shall not exceed 75%.
FiberFloor® may be installed over gypsum based underlayments when using the Glueless
Installation System.
EXISTING FLOORS
If using the Glueless Installation System, FiberFloor® may be installed over two layers of
non-cushioned existing sheet ooring. When using the Full Spread Installation System,
FiberFloor® may be installed over a single layer of existing non-cushioned sheet ooring
only. Check vinyl ooring for any curled areas around the perimeter or at seams and repair
if necessary. Use of a good quality hydraulic (portland) cement based embossing leveler
to ll and level any irregularities wider than ¼” or height differences greater than 1/32”.
An embossing leveler must be used for all fully adhered installations.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
All substrates must be dry, clean, smooth and level.
When using the Glueless Installation System, FiberFloor® will bridge minor
imperfections in the substrate. However, any height differences over 1/16”
shall be leveled with a latex fortied, hydraulic (portland) cement based
patching compound.
When using the Full Spread Installation System, ll and level all plywood seams
and concrete cracks, construction joints, control joints, depressions, grooves or
other irregularities. Use a latex fortied, hydraulic (portland) cement patching
compound.
Sweep and/or vacuum substrate to remove all dust and debris.
WARNING: Do not sand, dry sweep, dry scrape, drill, saw, beadblast or mechanically
chip or pulverize existing resilient ooring, backing, lining felt or asphaltic “cutback”
adhesive. These products may contain asbestos bers or crystalline silica. Avoid
creating dust. Inhalation of such dust is a cancer and respiratory tract hazard.
Smoking by individuals exposed to asbestos bers greatly increases the risk of serious
bodily harm. Unless positively certain that the product is a non-asbestos containing
material, you must presume it contains asbestos. Regulation may require that the
material be tested to determine asbestos content.
BATHROOM GLUELESS INSTALLATION
When installing in a full bathroom, the ooring may be t net against the bathtub
of shower stall. Apply Acrylic Seam Tape along the front of the tub or stall. Remove
the release liner and t the ooring against the tub of stall. The remaining walls
and toilet ange must have the
1/4”
space between the ooring. Apply a
bead of silicone caulking in front of bathtub.
FINISHING THE JOB
Do not move or roll furniture and appliances directly over oor. Always place
plywood or hardboard panels on oor when moving furniture or appliances.
Furniture legs shall be equipped with proper size rests to prevent permanent
indentations.
Carefully inspect for any fullness in the ooring. Re-trim if necessary.
Flooring shall be laying at.
It is recommended that all exposed edges be covered. Install wood moldings
or cove base around the perimeter to cover the space. Do not fasten
or nail moldings through FiberFloor®. Fasten into the wall.
Use transition moldings at doorways or where the new ooring meets an existing
oor. Do not nail or fasten the molding through the ooring. Transition moldings
shall be fastened to the substrate. If a transition molding must be installed
directly on top of ooring. Mark on the ooring where each fastener will be
positioned. Drill or cut a hole larger than the size of the fastener. This will
allow for any type of movement.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Check furniture to be sure the legs are equipped with proper rests and are of
sufcient size to prevent permanent indentations.
Sweep and/or vacuum any dirt or debris that can abrade or scratch the oor. Use
a soft brush, dust mop or vacuum.
Light daily sweeping or vacuuming will help maintain the oors original gloss by
removing any grit particles, which can affect the normal gloss.
Wipe up spills promptly and thoroughly with a clean, damp cloth. Spills are easier
to remove if wiped up immediately.
When necessary, wash the oor with a neutral oor cleaner.
Use non-staining walk-off mats at outside entrances to prevent dirt and debris
from being tracked onto the oor. Discoloration of the ooring may occur from
rubber backings and dyes used in oor mats and rugs.
As with other household furnishings, repeated exposure to direct sunlight may
cause bleaching or discoloration. When possible, close drapes or blinds during peak
sunlight hours to block direct sunlight.
REPAIRS
Cuts, Punctures and Gouges
• A sharp object dropped onto the oor generally causes this type of damage. If
the wearlayer is intact, the repair is simply performed by sealing the wearlayer back
together using the recommended seam sealer.
If the damaged area has become dirty, clean the area with a clean, white cloth
dampened with mineral spirits and allow to dry. Carefully apply the recommended
seam sealer to damaged area. Protect area from trafc for a minimum of 3 hours.
Repair Requiring an Insert
These types of repairs should be made using material left over from the original
installation, to minimize color variation. If extra material is not available, material
may be acquired from inconspicuous areas such as under appliances and inside closets.
Find a suitable place of repair material to match the damaged area and cut roughly
one inch over size.
Place the repair material over the damaged area and tape in place along the edges
with masking tape. Make sure the pattern is aligned correctly.
Using a sharp utility knife and a straight edge, double-cut through the repair
material and the damaged ooring. If possible, cuts should be made along the
edges of the grout lines.
Remove the repair piece and damaged place, making sure to keep the repair piece in
proper alignment.
Place Tarkett (S875) Floating Seam Tape under all four sides.
Remove release liner and insert the repair piece and roll with a hand roller.
Seal seams with Tarkett DT-25 Seam Sealer for materials with high gloss nish and
Tarkett DT-65 Seam Sealer for materials with low gloss nish. Protect seam from
trafc for a minimum of 8 hours.
