MIDI Control by the DM-4800
In addition to MIDI Machine Control (MMC) by the
DM-4800 (see “Remote operation” on page 105), it
is also possible for the DM-4800 to act as a remote
MIDI controller for MIDI devices.
You can either create a looped MIDI system by con-
necting INs and OUTs, or simply connect the DM-
4800’s
MIDI OUT to the MIDI IN of the remote
device.
MIDI controllers
This option allows you to use the POD controls to
send MIDI Control Change messages to the destina-
tion (connected to
MIDI OUT).
This function is only active when the
REMOTE fader
layer is selected and the
MIDI CONTROLLERS screen is
displayed, or was the last external control screen
displayed
1 Use the
REMOTE EXT.CTRL screen to set up the
device control:
With the cursor highlighting the list at right,
use the POD 4 control to highlight the MIDI
controller option (
MIDI Ctrlrs ) and press the on-
screen
ADD button.
2 Move the cursor to the
SCREEN column with the
on-screen button, and press
ENTER, or (as
shown in Figure 8.3, External Control), press
the POD 4 switch to bring up the popup menu
(if MIDI controllers is the only selected device,
then this will be the only option other than
CANCEL ), and use POD 4 to highlight the con-
troller option.
3 Press
ENTER to bring up the controller setting
screen:
4 The highlighted POD controls can then be
used to send the named common MIDI Con-
trol Change messages on the MIDI channel
selected as the
ID in the EXT.CTRL screen. If the
MIDI IN is receiving messages on that channel
from devices which transmit these controller
messages, the results are reflected on the
screen here.
TIP
These Control Change messages conform to the MIDI
standard (Modulation=1, etc.).
