Maintenance If the surface of the unit gets dirty, wipe with a soft cloth or use diluted neutral cleaning liquid. Be sure to remove any fluid completely. Do not use thinner, benzine or alcohol as they may damage the surface of the unit. Restoring factory settings If you want to manually initialize the settings, restore the unit to the factory settings as follows: 1. If the unit is on, turn it off (standby). 2. Hold down the FM MODE button for more than 4 seconds until the unit turns on.
Discs Discs which can be played on this unit: • Conventional audio CDs bearing the COMPACT DISC DIGITAL AUDIO logo on the label: • Properly finalized CD-R and CD-RW discs • MP3 CDs Note: < Depending on the quality of the disc and/or the condition of the recording, some CD-R/CD-RW discs may not be playable. < Copy-protected discs and other discs that do not conform to the CD standard may not play back correctly in this player.
< CD-R and CD-RW discs are more sensitive to the effects of heat and ultraviolet rays than ordinary CDs. It is important that they are not stored in a location where direct sunlight will fall on them, and which is away from sources of heat such as radiators or heat-generating electrical devices. < Printable discs aren’t recommended, as the label side might be sticky and damage the unit. < Do not stick papers or protective sheets on the discs and do not use any protective coating spray.
Connection 1 CAUTION: < Switch off the power to all equipment before making connection. < Read the instructions of each component you intend to use with this unit. < Be sure to insert each plug securely. To prevent hum and noise, avoid bundling the signal interconnection cables together with the AC power cord or speaker cables. A Speaker Terminals < Use commercially available speaker cables. < The black speaker terminals are – (negative). Generally, the + side of the speaker cable is marked to make it distinguishable from the – side of the cable. Connect this marked side to the + terminal and the unmarked side to the black – terminal. Caution: < To avoid damaging the speakers with a sudden high-level signal, be sure to switch the power off before connecting the speakers. < Check the impedance of your speakers.

F iPod Dock I AUX 3 IN Connect the Dock to the iPod port. < Make sure the label side of the plug is up. < Securely insert the plug until a slight “click” is heard. To disconnect the Dock: Squeeze both sides of the plug and pull. You can connect a portable audio player to this jack. Connect the LINE OUT or PHONES jack (audio output jack) of the player using a commercially available stereo mini plug cable.
Connecting Antennas AM Indoor Loop Antenna The high-performance AM loop antenna provided with this unit is sufficient for good reception in most areas. To stand the loop antenna on a surface, fix the claw to the slot in the antenna base. AM Outdoor Antenna If the AM loop antenna provided does not deliver sufficient reception (often due to being too far from the transmitter or in a concrete building, etc.), it may be necessary to use an outdoor AM antenna.
FM Indoor Antenna Connect the lead-type FM antenna to the FM 75Ω socket, extend the lead and tune the tuner to your favorite station (see page 33). Adjust the antenna in a suitable location like a window frame or wall until the reception is best and then affix the antenna in that position using thumb tacks, push pins or any other suitable means. FM Outdoor Antenna In an area where FM signals are weak, it will be necessary to use an outdoor FM antenna.

A STANDBY/ON Press this button to turn the unit on or standby. The standby indicator surrounding the STANBY/ON button lights when the unit is in the standby mode. When the unit is turned on, it goes off. B Remote Sensor When operating the remote control unit, point it towards the remote sensor. H STOP (H), RDS MODE, MENU In CD mode, use this button to stop playback. In FM TUNER mode, this button is used to select the RDS mode. In iPod mode, use this button to go back to the previous menu.

This button is equivalent to the MENU button on your iPod. During MP3/WMA playback, use this button to display MP3/WMA information. C ENTER This button is equivalent to the Center button on your iPod. In iPod mode, use this button to confirm selection in menus.
To use the numeric buttons in CD mode or in TUNER mode, you have to press the CD button or the TUNER button beforehand to switch the function of the remote control unit from TUNER to CD (or from CD to TUNER). If the remote control unit doesn’t work, press the CD button or the TUNER button and try again. (Even when the CD or TUNER button is pressed without pointing at the main unit, the function of the remote control unit will be switched.
Remote Control Unit The provided Remote Control Unit allows the unit to be operated from a distance. When operating the remote control unit, point it towards the REMOTE SENSOR on the front panel of the unit. < Even if the remote control unit is operated within the effective range, remote control operation may be impossible if there are any obstacles between the unit and the remote control.
Basic Operation 1 1 1 Press the STANDBY/ON button to turn the unit on. 2 3 3 Play the source, and gradually turn up the volume to the required level by turning the VOLUME knob. 2 Select a source by pressing the SOURCE button. Each time the SOURCE button is pressed, the source changes as follows: TUNER AUX3 CD iPod AUX2 TAPE AUX1 < To listen to an external source connected to the AUX IN jack, select AUX (1, 2 or 3).
Basic Operation 2 Headphones For private listening, first reduce the volume level to minimum. Then insert the plug from your headphones into the PHONES jack, and adjust the volume using the VOLUME buttons. The sound from the speakers is cut off while the headphone jack is inserted. Muting To mute the sound temporarily, press the MUTING button. Press the MUTING button again to restore the sound. < While muting is engaged, “MUTE” blinks on the display.
How to adjust bass, treble, balance of speakers and dimmer Available menu item and options BASS Adjusts the level of low frequency sound range. The level can be adjusted from –10 to +10. 1 2 1 Repeatedly press the TONE/BAL/DIMMER TREBLE Adjusts the level of high frequency sound range. The level can be adjusted from –10 to +10. button to select the menu item to be changed. BALANCE Adjusts the balance of the volume level between left and right speakers.
Getting started with iPod The CR-H227i comes mounted with an adapter for iPod with color display (40GB, 60GB), “60GB (color) + Photo 40GB/60GB”. To play your iPod through the CR-H227i, you have first to check if the factory mounted adapter fits your model of iPod. If it does not, you have to replace it with a correct one, as explained below. 1. Remove the adapter from the Dock of the CRH227i. Hold the left and right sides of the adapter and gently pull it up. 3.
Listening to iPod 1 1 Press the iPod button of the remote control To start or pause playback unit (or repeatedly press the SOURCE button) to select “iPod”. If no iPod is docked, “Unplugged” appears on the display. If an iPod is already docked, playback will start. 2 Insert the iPod into the Dock of the CR-H227i. In iPod mode, press the PLAY button (G) to start playback. During playback, press the Pause button (J) to pause playback. Playback stops at the current position.
Listening to iPod 2 Display mode (Video output from iPod) To skip to the next or a previous track When the iPod is docked, press and hold the MENU button for more than 3 seconds to select which display to be used. During playback, press the SKIP button (. or /) repeatedly until the desired track is found. The selected track will be played from the beginning. Extended mode (default) Select this to use the display of the CR-H227i. Information on the audio files is displayed on the display of the CR-H227i.
To go back to the previous menu Press the MENU button to go back to the previous menu. This button is equivalent to the MENU button on your iPod. To activate the repeat mode During playback, press the REPEAT button to change the repeat mode. Each time the REPEAT button is pressed, the REPEAT setting of iPod is changed as follows: Repeat 1, Repeat All, (off) < In the Click Wheel mode, if the iPod is set to repeat one song, the Repeat One icon ( ) appears in the iPod’s display.
Listening to CD/MP3/WMA 1 3 2 4 4 Press the OPEN/CLOSE button (L) to close the tray. 1 5 1 Press the CD button of the remote control unit When an audio CD is loaded: The total number of the tracks and total play time of the disc is displayed. (or repeatedly press the SOURCE button) to select “CD”. When an MP3 or WMA disc is loaded: The total number of files of the disc is displayed. “No Disc” will be displayed if no disc is set. 5 Press the PLAY button (G). 2 Press the OPEN/CLOSE button (L).
IMPORTANT Buttons for CD and iPod To use the following buttons on the remote control unit in CD mode or in iPod mode, you have to press the CD button or the iPod button beforehand to switch the function of the remote control unit from iPod to CD (or from CD to iPod): PLAY, PAUSE, SHUFFLE, SKIP, SEARCH, REPEAT 1/ALL If the remote control unit doesn’t work, press the CD button or the iPod button and try again.
Listening to CD/MP3/WMA 2 Search for a part of a track Direct Playback (CD/MP3/WMA) While in stop or playback mode, you can use the numeric buttons of the remote control to select a track. When you use the numeric buttons, press the CD button of the remote control first. During playback, hold down the SEARCH button (m or , ) of the remote control unit (or the SKIP button of the main unit) for more than 2 seconds and release it when the part you want to listen to is found.
Repeat Playback (CD/MP3/WMA) Repeat Playback Repeat all the tracks (Repeat All) All the tracks will be played repeatedly. During programmed playback, programmed tracks will be played repeatedly. Each time the REPEAT 1/ALL button is pressed, the mode is changed as follows: A-B Repeat Playback When a CD is loaded: Repeat 1 Repeat All Play (off) When an MP3/WMA disc is loaded.
Programmed Playback (CD/MP3/WMA) Up to 32 tracks can be programmed in the desired order. 3 When programming has been finished, press the PLAY button (y) to start programmed playback. 1 Press the PROGRAM button in the stop mode. When the playback of all the programmed tracks has finished, or if the STOP button or the STANDBY/ON button is pressed, the program mode will be cancelled. 2 Select a track using the numeric buttons. But the programmed contents aren’t lost.
To check the programmed order To clear the program 1. In the stop mode, press the PROGRAM button. In the stop mode, press the PROGRAM button repeatedly. The track number and program number will be shown on the display. 2. Hold down the CLEAR button for more than 4 seconds. To add a track to the program In the stop mode, press the PROGRAM button repeatedly until the program number you want to insert a track appears on the display.
Shuffle Playback (CD/MP3/WMA) Time Display (CD) Press the SHUFFLE button in the stop or play mode. “Random play” appears on the display, and the tracks will be played randomly. When playing back an audio CD, each time the TIME button is pressed the display changes as follows: < If you press the / button during shuffle playback, next track will be randomly selected and played. If you press the . button, the currently played track/file will be played from the beginning.
Listening to the Radio 2 1 3 FM MODE 1 Press the TUNER button of the remote control unit (or repeatedly press the SOURCE button) to select “TUNER”. 4 Press the TUNING button to tune in a station. In the Auto tune mode, the unit starts searching for a station. When a station is tuned in, the tuning process will stop automatically. Repeat this step until the station you want to listen to is found. < If you want to stop the tuning process, press the TUNING button.
Preset Tuning You can store up to 30 FM and 30 AM stations. Preset Manually Preset Automatically 1 Tune in a station you want to listen to (see page 33). 1 Select AM or FM by pressing the BAND button. 2 Press the MEMORY button. 2 Press the MEMORY button for more than 3 seconds. “CH01” blinks on the display. 3 Within 4 seconds, select a preset channel to store the station using the PRESET buttons, and then press the MEMORY button.
< You can also use the numeric buttons. For instance, to select preset number 25, first press the TUNER button, and then press “2” and “5”. How to select preset stations 1 Select AM or FM by pressing the BAND button. 2 Select “Preset tune” using the TUNING MODE button. To select numbers less than 10, press “0” and then the number. As an example, to select number 2, press “0” and “2”. (Optionally, you may press just the number “2” and then wait a few seconds.
RDS The Radio Data System (RDS) is a broadcasting service which allows stations to send additional information along with the regular radio programme signal. Traffic announce (TA) When you select Traffic announce, “TRAFFIC ANNOUNCE” will blink for 3 seconds and then the unit searches for a traffic announcement. RDS works on the FM waveband in Europe only. 1 Tune in an FM RDS station (see page 33). 2 Press the RDS MODE button (or the INFO/RDS button of the remote control unit).
RDS (PTY Search) 4 3 5 1 2 A station can be searched by this function. 5 Press the TUNING button. 1 Select FM by pressing the BAND button. The unit starts searching. 2 Press the RDS MODE button for more than 3 seconds. < When the programme that you have selected is found, searching stops and the programme type will be displayed. < If the same programme type is not found during PTY Search, it will stop at the beginning frequency. “RDS PROGRAM TYPE” appears on the display.
RDS (PTY) News: brief announcements, events, public opinion, reports, actual situations. Current Affairs: a kind of suggestion including practical announcements other than news, documents, discussion, analysis and so on. Information: daily information or reference such as weather forecast, consumer guide, medical assistance and so on. Sport: sports related programs. Education: educational and cultural information. Drama: all kinds of radio concert and serial drama.
Setting the Clock ENTER SKIP TIME MODE 1 Press the TIME MODE button once. Each time the TIME MODE button is pressed, the mode is changed as follows: Current time On time 3 Press the ENTER button. The “minute” value blinks. 4 Press the SKIP buttons to set the current minute. Off time Source select < When no action is taken for 1 minute, the time adjust mode will be cancelled. 5 Press the ENTER button. < Press the STOP button to cancel the time setting.
Setting the Timer ENTER SKIP TIME MODE Setting the Timer < The unit can be programmed to turn on and off at a specified time. < Adjust the clock before setting the timer. < When no action is taken for 1 minute, the timer setting mode will be cancelled. 4 Press the SKIP buttons to set the stop time (hour), and press the ENTER button. The “minute” value blinks. 1 Press the TIME MODE button twice. 5 Press the SKIP buttons to set the stop time (minute), and press the ENTER button.
To turn on the timer To turn off the timer 1 After setting the timer, press the TIMER button to turn the timer on. The timer indicator “ ” lights on the display. When you don’t use the timer, press the TIMER button to turn it off. (The timer indicator “ ” disappears from the display.) Press the TIMER button again to turn it on. 2 Prepare the source and adjust the volume. When the source is set to “iPod”, insert an iPod. When the source is set to “CD”, set a disc.
Troubleshooting If you have problems with your system, look through this chart and see if you can solve the problem yourself before calling your dealer or TEAC service center. General No power e Check the connection to the AC power supply. Check and make sure the AC source is not a switched outlet and that, if it is, the switch is turned on. Make sure there is power to the AC outlet by plugging another item such as a lamp or fan into the outlet. No sound from speakers.
