Table 19-3. Embedded NIC MAC Addresses
Field Description
Virtual MAC Displays Virtual Media Access Control (MAC) addresses.
Virtual MAC data is obtained from hardware inventory, hence
the hardware Inventory needs to be collected once before
viewing the vMAC data.
Click System Inventory. The Inventory data is updated and
displayed on the System Inventory page. Click System
Details again. The Virtual MACs for each of the Embedded
LAN Ports is now displayed on the System Details page.
NOTE: The vMAC feature will be used by Dell Advanced
Infrastructure Manager (AIM) in the future releases. If Dell AIM
does not manage the server currently, then the Ethernet MAC
address and the Virtual MAC address are identical.
NIC 1 Displays the Ethernet, Internet Small Computer System
Interface (iSCSI), and the Virtual MAC address(es) of the
embedded Network Interface Controller (NIC) 1.
Ethernet NICs support the wired Ethernet standard and plug
into the system bus of the server.
iSCSI NIC is a network interface controller with the iSCSI
stack running on the host computer.
MAC addresses uniquely identify each node in a network at
the Media Access Control layer.
NIC 2 Displays the Ethernet, iSCSI and the Virtual MAC
address(es) of the embedded Network Interface Controller
NIC 2 that uniquely identifies it in the network.
NIC 3 Displays the Ethernet, iSCSI and the Virtual MAC
address(es) of the embedded Network Interface Controller
NIC 3 that uniquely identifies it in the network.
