Precautions For your discs Ensure that the mains supply in your house complies with that indicated on the identification sticker located at the back of your set. Place the DVD player on a suitable base (furniture). Make sure the ventilation slots are not covered. Leave a 7 - 10 cm gap all around the unit, as shown below. These titles may be divided into chapters each of which is numbered, to give you a quick access to specific parts of the DVD. Sound and picture Virtual Surround Sound For DVDs Playing Dolby Digital (AC-3) 5.1 channel DVDs you can hear virtual surround sound as if comming from nonexistant rear speakers (even if you use only a stereo TV or a two-channel stereo system). 1 2 Start playback using PLAY button. Press virtual surround button on the top left part of the remote control: a 1x for a natural effect (VSS1), b 2x for a more emphasized effect (VSS2), and c the 3rd time, to cancel virtual Surround effect again.

Angle / rating • • • • • Perhaps you want to change (if available) the dialogue language of a film (synchronisation), the subtitle language, the camera angle temporarily for one disc or override the rating (Set-up, page 23/28). Three dedicated buttons ( , , ) on your remote control offer easy direct access while viewing. Some DVDs provide a disc menu. Temporary change of languages (audio, subtitles) or camera angle may also be possible by pressing the menu button (sometimes guide button) during playback.

Video connections Basically In order to ensure the best picture quality, you should first connect your DVD player directly to your TV set, and then arrange the connections to your other audio / video equipment. Do not stack electronic components or other objects on top of the DVD player. Connecting a video recorder and a decoder (for pay TV) AV1/TV DVD TV VIDEO Do not block ventilation holes of any of the components.
Video connections Connecting an S-Video (Y-C) capable TV to the player * S-VIDEO IN S-VIDEO OUT TV If the S-Video / RGB SCART socket is not free. You need a special S-Video cable (not provided) for the video connection and Cinch cables for audio left and right (provided). Connect your DVD player to your TV set with one video cable only either SCART, or S-Video, or Video Phono (Cinch).
Audio connections Connecting an audio / video amplifier (receiver) with two SCART sockets (sold separately) • • If you have a Dolby Pro Logic surround decoder, you will obtain the full benefit of Dolby Pro Logic sound from DVD movies, either from DVD titles with the Dolby Digital mark, as well as from DVD titles with the Dolby Surround mark. AV1/TV DVD AV2/EXT AV2/DECODER VIDEO The Dolby Pro Logic Surround System encodes 4 sound channels in the two stereo soundtracks of a disc.
Audio connections When connecting the optical audio digital cable: 1. Remove the dust protection cap from the connector and connect it firmly as shown on the drawing. 2. Keep the dust protection cap and always reattach the cap when not using the connector, to protect against dust. The audio output from the unit's optical / coaxial digital audio output connector The type of audio output from the connector you can select during the set-up procedure (see page 25).
Audio connections Surround sound Your DVD player will always deliver a high-quality 2-channel (stereo) signal to the audio output, regardless of whether the soundtracks on DVD movies are in 2-channel stereo, in Dolby Surround, in Dolby Digital (AC-3) or in MPEG2 audio multichannel. In some cases the soundtracks may be single channel (mono) only, then the output will also be mono only.
