Safety precautions Disc information Placement Disc selection and care Before use Set the unit up on an even surface away from direct sunlight, high temperatures, high humidity, and excessive vibration. These conditions can damage the cabinet and other components, thereby shortening the unit’s service life. Other modes of play Specifying a group to play DVD-A REPEAT The tracks on DVD-Audio are divided into groups. How these groups are played differs with the disc so read the instructions that came with the disc for further details. Repeat play DVD-V VCD CD DVD-A DVD-V VCD CD This feature allows you to repeat titles, tracks and chapters. When playing DVD-Audio, the selected group play mode (normal or all groups ) is repeated. This feature repeats play between two points that you specify. Press [REPEAT] during play to select the required repeat play mode. 1 During play The mode changes each time you press the button. The modes depend on the type of disc you are playing.

Switching angles DVD-V Some DVDs allow you to view the same scene from different angles. “ ” lights up on the unit’s display during scenes with multiple angles recorded to indicate this feature is available. The radio: manual tuning 8 Radio stations can be tuned manually by selecting the station’s frequency or they can be preset into channels to make it easy to tune with the remote control (a page 30). Using the timers The play timer This timer starts play of the selected source at the selected time. The example shows settings for preset radio channel 3 to play between 6:30 and 7:40, at –40 dB. Speaker settings A Refer to “Changing the settings” (\ page 41). You can enjoy multi-channel audio from DVDs without doing these settings. Change them to improve the effect or when you connect a subwoofer. Delay time Changing the delay time allows you to make up for differences in distance between the speakers and the listening position.

Troubleshooting guide Before requesting service, make the below checks. If you can’t fix the system as described below, or if something not listed here occurs, refer to the enclosed directory to locate an Authorized Service Center convenient to you or contact your dealer. Reference pages are shown as black circled numbers. i Common problems No power. Ensure the AC mains lead and flat cables are connected correctly. i !0 No sound. Turn the volume up. The speaker cords may be shorted.
Listening to the radio Noise is heard. The stereo indicator flickers or doesn’t light. Sound is distorted. Use an outdoor antenna. $7 A beat sound is heard. Turn the TV off or separate it from the unit. A low hum is heard during AM broadcasts. Separate the antenna from other cables and leads. The correct AM frequency can’t be tuned in. Change the frequency step. Hold [FM/AM] down for 10 seconds to change the step to 9 kHz. The cassette deck Poor quality sound. Clean the heads.
Glossary Video Other Frame Track Frames are the still pictures that go together to make a moving picture. There are about thirty frames shown each second. This is the smallest division on DVD-Audio, CDs and Video CDs and usually equates to a single song. Chapter Field One frame is made up of two fields. A regular television shows these fields one after the other to create frames. Frame still and field still A still is shown when you pause a moving picture.
