FITTING BATTERIES 1. Unclip the two battery cover latches and remove the battery cover. BATTERY OPERATION FITTING BATTERIES Referring to the previous section, fit 6 x ‘C’/’UM2’ batteries into the battery compartment. Remove the batteries if the unit will not be used for a long time to avoid the danger of leakage. NOTE: Never mix old and new batteries or batteries of different types. Batteries should always be replaced as sets. BATTERY DISPOSAL 2.
LISTENING TO FM RADIO To listen to FM radio: • Fully extend the telescopic aerial at the back of the unit. • Move the FUNCTION selector on the left side to select the RADIO position. • Move the BAND selector on the top panel to the FM ST. (FM stereo) position. • Turn the TUNING control to select the station you want (the FM frequency scale is the outer scale marked in MHz). • Fine adjust the tuning so that the station plays clearly.
CD/MP3/WMA DISPLAY FEATURES The front panel display shows track and play mode status when playing CDs or MP3/WMA music files from a disc or from flash media.
PLAYING MP3/WMA FROM A CD-ROM OR FLASH MEDIA MP3/WMA MUSIC FILE COMPILATIONS This unit will also play MP3/WMA music file compilations. These are normally created on a computer and saved to a CDROM, a USB Flash drive or SD Card. File organisation: The files on the CD-ROM or flash media may be organised in the following ways • All music tracks stored in the ‘root’ directory of the CDROM/Flash Media. In this case, all tracks will be played in a numerical/alphabetical order.
PROGRAM PLAY You can store a program selection of up to 20 tracks from a CD or 99 tracks from an MP3/WMA compilation to play in your preferred sequence. To set a program: • Load a CD or MP3/WMA compilation and wait for it to read. Play will begin automatically. • Press the STOP button to stop playback (programming is only possible when stopped). • Press the MODE button. The display will show the PROG symbol and P01 flashing (the position of this track in the program).
PLAYING AND RECORDING CASSETTE TAPES You can play cassette tapes in the cassette player. You can also record on cassettes from the CD or radio. Three types of cassette tapes are generally available - Normal (IEC I), Chrome (IEC II) and Metal (IEC IV). The cassette player will play all three types, but Normal cassettes are recommended for recordings. Loading a cassette: • Press the STOP/EJ. key to open the cassette door.
TROUBLESHOOTING Poor quality radio reception The aerial signal may not be adequate. Try repositioning the telescopic aerial (FM band) or rotating the unit (AM band). Skipping when playing a CD/CD-ROM The CD playing surface may be dirty or marked with finger prints. Try cleaning the CD with a CD cleaner. Music files from a computer will not play The music files may not be a compatible format. Check that they are MP3 or WMA format. The music files may be protected WMA files.
