To replace the lithium backup battery, remove the battery cover and unscrew the tiny
screw holding the
BACK UP BATTERY
cover in place. Install a new
CR1616
or
CR1620
battery
according to the polarity (+ and
N
) diagram on the cover. Replace the cover and screw.
Turning On and Turning Off the TI-86
To turn on the TI
-
86, press
^
.
If you
previously had turned off the calculator by
pressing
-
, the TI
-
86 clears any errors and
displays the home screen as it was last displayed.
If Automatic Power Down
TM
(APD
TM
) previously had
turned off the calculator, the TI
-
86 will return as you
left it, including the display, cursor, and any error.

To turn off the TI

feature. Any error condition is cleared.
APD turns off the TI

86 automatically after about four minutes of non-use to extend battery life.
Adjusting the Display Contrast
