- 1. First the receiver is tuned to the first specified SDM channel number. Legal channel numbers are received in MSG_BGAN_START_SKYSCAN.
- 2. After a settling period of 6 ms the RM initiates an estimation of the channel power. Two channel power estimates are calculated; the wide estimate is calculated in a 36 kHz bandwidth and the narrow estimate is calculated in a 14 kHz bandwidth.
- 3. After approximately 30 ms the RM will have estimated the channel power in a narrow and a wide bandwidth.

- 3. The RM responds by sending MSG_BGAN_SKYSCAN_ALLOWED_RESP. If valid = true then the RM responds by sending MSG_BGAN_START_SKYSCAN with one or more channel numbers of global BGAN signal carriers.

- 7. Stop sky-scan in the BGAN XL Radio Module by sending: MSG_BGAN_SKYSCAN_RESULT indicating that the sky-scan has succeeded.

- 12.3.2 Registration
- 1. Notify the BGAN XL Radio Module that a USIM card is available by setting the configuration parameter platform.usim.status to 1. The RM now uses the protocol specified in section 8.5.2.11 on page 8-29 to access the USIM card.
- 2. Provide the RM with a valid GPS position for the current location. This is done by sending MSG_NAV_REPORT to the RM.

first time, the software will be marked invalid, and the RM will use the previous loaded
software after a system reset. A software update is accepted if the RM exits the ‘initial’
state, which can be checked using the sys.status.mode parameter.
11.2.3 Platform update procedure (FOR INTERNAL USE)
In some cases, the RM will be controlled by a separate board processor using the serial
control interface. If the AP updates the RM with software that contains a Platform TIIF
the BP can fetch this software using a TFTP like protocol over the serial control
interface (see 8.5.2.7 on page 8-21). In this case the BP and not the AP should control
the reboot of the RM. This is illustrated in the following figure.
11.2.4 Software fallback / recovery
The BGAN XL Radio Module will stop in safemode/bootloader if there is no bootable
application in flash, or the Control Interface interrupt input signal (Irq_In, see 5.7.1 on
page 5-20) is active high when the RM is taken out of reset.
When the BGAN XL Radio Module is in bootloader mode it will present itself with the
serial number ”boot loader” and device description "TT-3750 BGAN-XL Radio Module
Bootloader" on the Data Interface.
Note
It is important not to reboot the RM when it is booting the updated software
for the first time. If the RM is reset during the first boot attempt, the internal
software update validation will fail and the RM will not apply the updated
software.
