11.3 Extended POST
When in service mode the BGAN XL Radio Module provides test functions to make
interconnection tests of its various interfaces in order to allow the integrator to perform
thorough testing of the terminal. These test functions are referred to as extended POST
and are controlled by the integrator who must perform the pass/fail validation. The
extended POST functions support tests of the following interfaces:
RF control interface (read/write test).
TSI interface (loop-back).
RF interfaces (loop-back).
Bit Error Rate testing using Rx and Tx signals (available in a later version).
11.3.1 RF control interface
The RF control interface consists of an SPI bus, 3 discrete outputs and 1 discrete input
as described in section 9.2. The test will enable check of all the individual signals
comprising the RF control interface.
The extended POST of the RF control interface will run a simulated sequence of setting
up Rx reception at 1545.0 MHz followed by a 80 ms transmission of a CW at 1550.0 MHz
(the CW signal from the BGAN XL Radio Module will be muted during this test to
prevent illegal transmission of signal power on-air).
11.3.1.1 Configuration parameter dependent behaviour
The actual signals presented on the RF control interface pins during extended POST
depends on the configuration of the interface (see section 6.5.5 on page 6-24). The
configuration used in this test will therefore be identical to the configuration chosen
for operating mode, thus the interface functionality tested will be the same as used
during operation.
11.3.1.2 Test procedure
The extended POST of the RF control interface is controlled by a number of dedicated
messages. They can be accessed on the control interface (see section 8.5.9 on page 8-
55).
Note
If the .rfctrl.tx.ctrl.tx_ack_en, .rfctrl.tx.ctrl.spi_en or .rfctrl.rx.ctrl.spi_en
parameters are enabled, the BGAN XL Radio Module will expect the signals to
be operated as if a real transmission is present (see section 9.2.4 on page 9-14
and on page 9-23). If this is not the case the BGAN XL Radio Module could
enter the error mode.
