Product overview
3.2.1 Integration options
The architecture of the BGAN XL Radio Module has been designed with flexibility in
mind to enable easy integration into all different kind of terminal architectures. Apart
from the various user interfaces defining a given terminal the integrator will only have
to implement an antenna system (incl. HPA/LNA) and a SIM card interface.
To speed up the development process Cobham Satcom offers a development platform
for the BGAN XL Radio Module and different kind of integration services e.g.:
Support of BGAN XL Radio Module integration with 3rd party antenna system.
Support/integration of complete Inmarsat type approved BGAN XL Radio Module
solution incl. antenna system into customers application.
3.2.2 Typical application
A typical terminal based on the BGAN XL Radio Module contains a board processor
and an application processor in addition to the BGAN XL Radio Module itself.
To ensure correct operation of the terminal the board processor shall provide the
BGAN XL Radio Module with configuration parameters like e.g. terminal class and
output power and control information like e.g. SIM card information. The board
processor functions can, if desired, be integrated into the application processor.
The application processor handles user interfaces like e.g. Ethernet LAN including
DHCP and NAT, USB, Analog 2-Wire (POTS) and ISDN and the associated protocol
stacks. It also implements GUIs and PABX functions.
