Startup & configuration
6.1.2.4 Step #4 - Service mode
When the BGAN XL Radio Module is ready to receive service related instructions on the
control interface an acknowledge message is returned (see section 8.5.2.9.1 on
page 8-26):
MSG_ACK
Now the BGAN XL Radio Module has entered service mode and the integrator has
access to a special designed service API which among other things offers the capability
to:
Execute additional connectivity tests (see step #5a in section 6.1.2.5).
Perform calibration of the Rx and Tx chains (see step #5b in section 6.1.2.6).
Transmit an unframed L-band carrier (modulated or CW).
Perform measurements on a specified L-band Rx channel (spectrum analyzer).
6.1.2.5 Step #5a - Extended POST
In service mode the integrator can choose to perform some additional connectivity
tests to validate that the connections to the BGAN XL Radio Module are functional and
ready to operate. These tests are referred to as extended POST and are controlled by
the integrator who must perform the pass/fail validation. The following functionality is
available in this mode:
Loop-back on the TSI interface.
Read/write via the RF Control interface.
Read/write and loop-back via the RF interfaces.
Bit Error Rate testing using Rx and Tx signals.
To support this kind of interaction between the integrator and the BGAN XL Radio
Module, a subset of test functions specially designed for this purpose are accessible.
The API subset is described in further details in section 11.3 on page 11-6.
6.1.2.6 Step #5b - Calibration
Service mode also offers an API subset designed to assist the integrator with external
calibration of the Rx and Tx chains (e.g. Tx levels and frequency variations).
The API includes the following capabilities (and is described in further detail in chapter
11):
Transmit an unframed l-band carrier (modulated or CW).
Perform measurements on a specified l-band Rx channel (spectrum analyzer).
