6.2.4.1 Parameter restrictions
The parameters in the configuration system are classified into the following five
restriction groups:
•§1 Mandatory parameters which must be specified by the integrator. These
parameters are only read once during activation and cannot be modified later in
the startup process. If these parameters are not specified when activated the
BGAN XL Radio Module will enter its ERROR state and cannot proceed to normal
operation before the errors are corrected.
•§2 Mandatory parameters which must be specified by the integrator. These
parameters are read during activation but can be modified anytime later. in the
startup process. If these parameters are not specified when activated the BGAN
XL Radio Module will enter its error mode and cannot proceed to normal
operation before the errors are corrected.
§3 Parameters which should be specified if the associated functionality/interface
is activated. These parameters are only read once during activation and cannot
be modified later in the startup process. If the associated functionality/interface
is activated and the parameters are not specified the BGAN XL Radio Module will
enter its error mode and proceed with a harmless configuration.
•§4 Optional parameters (if transient located in RAM and cleared during reboot)
and are per default deactivated. Optional parameters specified for t1 or t3 are
only read once during activation and cannot be modified later in the startup
process. Parameters for t2 and t4 can be altered anytime.
•§5 Optional persistent parameters are located in FLASH (survives a reboot) and
includes a default value. These parameters can be altered anytime but requires a
reboot to be effected.
The table below illustrates the severity (or impact) of an unconfigured parameter
versus the different restrictions. As an example if a §2 parameter is missing the BGAN
XL Radio Module will not operate properly whereas a missing §4 parameter is
acceptable.
Note
When the BGAN XL Radio Module enters its error mode one or more of the
mode parameters (described in section 6.4.1 on page 6-12) will include the
string 'error'. Details about why the BGAN XL Radio Module enters the error
mode can be captured via the syslog interface described in section 10.2 on
page 10-6.
