Replacingthesolderingtip
Thesolderingtipissubjectedtomechanicalstressduringsoldering.Thisresultsineventual
blunting,makingitnolongerpossibletocarryoutprecisesolderingjobsonsmallparts.In
thiscase,you can replace thesolderingtipwithanewone (not included, can beordered
separately).
Proceedasfollowstoreplacethesolderingtip:
• Unplugthesolderinggunfromthemainsoutlet.Letthesolderingguncooldowncompletely.
• Loosentheutedmetalcapnutonthesolderingironandremovetheholder.
• Carefullyremovethesolderingtipfromtheheatingelementbypullingitstraightoff.Donot
useforce,donotusetools!
• Placeanewsolderingtipontheheatingelement.
• Replacetheholderandcarefullytightenthemetalcapnut.Donotuseforceorusetoolsto
tighten!
Maintenanceandcleaning
• Theproductismaintenance-freepartfromoccasionallyreplacingthesolderingtip.
• Beforecleaning,unplugthesolderingguntodisconnectitfromthepowersupply.Thenletthe
solderingguncooldowncompletely.
• Useaclean,softanddryclothonlytocleantheexteriorsurfaceofthesolderinggun.
Donotuseanyaggressivecleaningagentsorchemicalsolutionsasthesemaydamagethe
housingcausingdiscolorationand/ormalfunction.
• Thesolderingtiprequiresnospecialcleaning.Itissufcienttooccasionallycleanresidual
uxorexcesssolderfromthetipwithasuitablemoistspongeordrycleaner/brasswooldur-
ingsoldering.
Makesurethatthesolderingtipistinnedbeforeyouceaseoperationorunplugthe
product.Thispreventsthetipfromcorroding.
Disposal
Donotdisposeofelectricalandelectronicproductswithyourhouseholdwaste!
Attheendofitsservicelife,disposeoftheproductinaccordancewithapplicable
regulatoryguidelines.

a)Preparation
• Selectahorizontal,stablesurfaceofsufcientsizeasaworkstation.
Protectheat-sensitivesurfaceswithasuitablemat.Neverplacethestandorsolderinggun
onvaluablefurnitureoroors.Neveruserugs,carpets,etc.asaworkingsurfaceMaintaina
sufcientdistancetoammableoreasilyinammableobjects(e.g.curtains)
• Makesurethattheutedmetalcapnutonthesolderingironistightlyfastened(donotuse
anytoolstotighten!).
• Warningstickersindifferentlanguagesareincluded.Coverthewarningstickeronthesolder-
inggunwiththestickerinyourlanguage.
• Placethesolderinggunonthestand.
b)Connection
•
Pluginthesolderingguntoaproperlyinstalledpoweroutlet.Thesolderinggunbeginsheating.
c)Operation
• Pickupthesolderinggunbythehandle.
• Youcannowcarryoutsmallsolderingjobswiththepreheatedsolderinggunwithoutpushing
theheatingbutton.
• Pushtheheatingbuttonwithyourindexngerwhensolderinglargerelementsthatrequire
moresolder.Thesolderinggunbeginsheatingthesolderingtipsothatmoreheatisavail-
able.
Caution!
Donotpushtheheatingbuttonforlongerthan30seconds.Pushingthebuttonfor
longerthanthespeciedperiodmayresultintheoverheatingordestructionofthe
heatingelement.
Important!
Theheating buttonmaybepushedonce every2minutesfor no longerthan30
seconds.Otherwisetheheatingelementmayoverheatorbedestroyed.
• Thesoldershouldmeltquicklywhenitcomesintocontactwiththesolderingtip.Anysmoke
isevaporateduxfromthesolder(tubularsolderwithuxcore).
• Placethesolderinggunonthestandduringoperationandbreaks.
Makesurethatthesolderingtipistinnedbeforebreaksorafteroperation.
Anymechanicaldamagetothesolderingtipwilldestroytheprotectivecoatingandshorten
theproduct’sservicelife.
• Cleantheworkpiecetoensurecleansolderingcontacts.Usesuitablesolderonly.Solder
containingaciduxmaydestroythesolderingtipand/ortheworkpiece.
• Tosolder,heatthebrazepointwiththesolderingtipandfeedsolderatthesametime.Re-
movethesolderfromthebrazepointbeforeremovingthesolderingtipfromthebrazepoint.
Youshouldcompletethesestepsquicklytopreventdamagetotheworkpiece(e.g.raised
conductors,overheatedelements,etc.).
• Allowthespeedlimitertocooldown.Itmaytake1-2seconds,dependingonthesizeofthe
brazepoint,forthesoldertoharden.Movingthesolderedelementorcableduringthisperiod
mayresultinaso-called“coldsolderjoint”.Thisisatermforabadsolderjointthatoftenlooks
mattsilverandaffordsneitheragoodelectricalcontactnormechanicalbond.
Agoodsolderjointshouldgleamlikechrome.
• Cleanthesolderingtipfromtimetotimefromresidualux(e.g.usingasuitablespongeora
suitabledrycleaner/brasswool.Brieywipethesolderingtiptocleanit.
Donotpressthesolderingtipintothedampspongeordrycleaner.Donotholdthedamp
spongeordrycleaneronthesolderingtipfortoolong.
• Placethesolderinggunonthestandwhenyouarenishedsoldering.Thendisconnectthe
plugfromthemainsoutlet.
Thesolderingguntakesatleast10minutestocooldown.Donottouchthesolder-
ingtip,thesolderinggunorthestandduringthisperiod.Riskofburning!Thesame
applieswhenreplacingthesolderingtip.
Thesolderinggunmustbecompletelycooledbeforeyoustoreit!Failuretodoso
posesarehazard!
