Changingthefuse
Ifthemainsswitchisnotlitwhenthestationisturnedonalthoughtheoutletislive,separatethesoldering
stationfromthemainsbypullingthepowerplug.
Thefuseholderisatthebottomofthesolderingstation,withthefuseinsertedintoit.
Unscrewthefuseholderbyturningitcounter-clockwiseusingasuitablescrewdriver.Afterwards,youcan
takeoutthefuseholderwiththefuseinsideit.
Replacetheblownfusewithanewfuseofthesametypeandwiththesamenominaldata(seethelabelon
thefuseoronthenameplateofthesolderingstation,alsoseechapter“Technicaldata”).
Never use a fuse with other nominal data. Never bridge the fuse! There is a risk of re!
Replacethebatterycompartmentlidinthecorrectwayandlockitbyslightlyturningittotheright,inclock-
wisedirection.
Ifthefusegoesoutagainafterstartingthesolderingstation,turnoffthesolderingstationandunplugthe
powercordfromthepoweroutlet.Don’tusethesolderingstationanymore;getitcheckedbyanexpert.
Maintenanceandcleaning
• Thesolderingstationismaintenance-free,exceptfortheoccasionalreplacementofthesolderingtipor
sponge.
• Beforecarryingoutanycleaningofthesolderingstation,itmustbeswitchedoffandthemainsplugmust
bedisconnectedfromthemainssocket.
Leavethesolderingrodandthesolderingstationtocooldownsufciently.
• Theexteriorofthesolderingstationshouldonlybewipedwithaclean,soft,drycloth.
Donotuseaggressivecleaningagentsorchemicalsolutionsthatcoulddamagethehousing(discolouring)
orimpairoperation.
• Thesolderingtipdoesnotrequireanyspecialcleaning.Itissufcienttocleanitoccasionallyfromux
residuesorexcessivesolderusingthewetsponge.
Thesolderingtipmustbewelltin-coatedbeforeswitchingthesolderingstationoff.Theprevents
acorrosionofthesolderingtip.
Disposal
Electricalandelectronicproductsdonotbelonginhouseholdwaste!!
Pleasedispose ofthe devicewhen itisnolongerofuse,accordingtothecurrentstatutory
requirements.

• Connecttheroundplugofthesolderingirontothecorrespondingsocketonthefrontofthesolderingsta-
tion(payattentiontothecorrectorientationoftheroundplug)andscrewitinmanually(donotusetools!).
• Rightnexttothesocketforthesolderingironthereisahigh-impedancepotentialequalizationsocket.A
high-impedancepotentialequalizationsocketenablesapplicationonMOScomponentsorESDworksta-
tionsandprotectsyoufromstaticchargeduringsoldering.ConnectthesocketwithyourESDworkstation
usingasuitablecable,ifnecessary.
• Connectthemainsplugtoanappropriateearthedmainssocket.
c)Operation
• Switchthesolderingstationonusingthepowerswitch(“I”=On).Thecontrollampattheswitchshould
nowlightup.
• Regulatethedesiredtemperatureofthesolderingironwiththeadjustingknob.Notetheinformationonthe
solderyouuseifnecessary,e.g.tocheckwhattemperatureisoptimal.
Thesolderingrodrequiressometimetoreachthesettemperature.Waitforabout2-3minutesbefore
startingtherstsolderingwork.
Duringtheheatingphase,theLEDabovetheknobwillashatshortintervals.Whenthesettiptempera-
tureisreached,theLEDwillashatlongintervals.
• Ontopofthesolderingironholderthereisasmallmetalbowl,whichcanbeusede.g.asastoragearea
forsolderwire,strandedwire,etc..
• Thesoldershouldmeltinstantlyuponcontactwiththesolderingtip.Risingsmokeiscausedbyevaporat-
inguxcontainedinsidethesolder.
Regulatethetemperaturetohigherrangeforlargersolderingareastoexecutethesolderingprocessmore
quickly.Lowerthetemperatureduringbreaks.Thissavesenergyandextendsthedurabilityofthesolder-
ingtip.
• Alwaysputthesolderingrodontheholderwhenitisheatinguporduringbreaksfromsoldering.
Makesurethatthesolderingtipiswelltin-coatedwhentakingbreaksorbeforeswitchingthesoldering
stationoff.
Mechanicaldamagetothesolderingtipdestroystheprotectivecoatingthereandthusreducestheservice
lifeconsiderably.
Makesurethespotstobesolderedontheworkpieceareclean.Useappropriateinstallationcablesonly.
Acidicsoldercandamagethesolderingtiportheworkpiece.
• Heatupthesolderinglocationwiththesolderingtipandaddsoldersimultaneously.Removethesolder
fromthesolderinglocation;then,removethesolderingtip.
Executethesolderingprocessquicklysincetheworkpiecemaybedamagedotherwise(e.g.liftedconduc-
tors,overheatedelements,etc.).
• Letthesolderinglocationcooldown.Itmaytake1-2secondsforthesoldertohardendependingonthe
sizeofthesolderinglocation.Donotmovethesolderedcomponentorcableduringthattime;otherwise,a
so-called“coldsolderingpoint”maybetheresult.Thisisasolderingpointwithdullsilverlook,whichdoes
notprovidegoodelectricalcontactnorgoodmechanicalxation.
Afaultlesssolderingpoint,ontheotherside,shinessimilartochrome.
• Cleanthesolderingtipoccasionallyfromuxresiduesusingthedampsponge.Todothis,onlybrieyrub
thesolderingtipalongthesponge.
Donotpressthetipintothedrycleanerorthedampspongeintoit;instead,alwayskeepthetipnevertoo
longonthedrycleaneroronthedampsponge.
Ifthereistoomuchsolderresidueonthedrycleaningunit,itcanberemovedandre-insertedinadifferent
orientation.First,liftoffthemetalcoverfromoverthedrycleaningunit.
Awornoutdrycleanercanbeexchangedforanewone.Thisisavailableasanaccessory(seee.g.onthe
Internetatwww.conrad.comontheproductpage).Thesameappliestothesponge.
• Insertthesolderingrodintotheholderafternishingwiththesolderingwork.Switchoffthesolderingsta-
tion(switchposition“O”=OFF).Thecontrollampattheswitchgoesout.
Ittakesatleast10minutesforthesolderingrodtocooldown.Donottouchsolderingtipor
holderduringthattime,riskofburns!Thesameappliestochangingthesolderingtip.
Thesolderingstationmustbecompletelycooleddownbeforestoringit!Thereisariskofre,if
thisisnotobserved!
Changeofsolderingtip
Duetotheunderlyingprinciple,thesolderingtipisundermechanicalloadduringsoldering.Thisresultsin
thesolderingtiptobecomebluntsothataprecisesolderingisnolongerpossibleatsmallerworkpieces.In
thiscase,thesolderingtipcanbereplacedwithanewone.
Solderingtipsarealsoavailableasaccessories,withvariousshapestochoosefrom.Thesmall-
erthetip,thenerthesolderingthatcanbeperformed.Widetipsareusedforcoarsersoldering.
Proceedasfollowstoreplacethesolderingtip:
• Turnoffthesolderingstationandletthesolderingironcooldowncompletely.
• Loosentheknurledmetalcapnutfromthesolderingironandpullthebracketoff.
• Carefullypullthesolderingtipinastraightlinefromtheceramicheatingelementofthesolderingiron.
The ceramicheating elementmust notbemechanicallystressed.Incaseofdamagetothe
ceramicheatingelement,thewarrantyexpires!
• Insertanewtipontotheceramicheatingelement.
• Placethecapnutinitspositionandtightenitcarefully.Donotuseforcewhenscrewing;donotuseany
tool!
