Note:Thelappingsolutionmustbekeptinfree
owingconditiontogetevendistributiononthe
bedknifeandreel.
Thelappingprocedureisasfollows:
1.Adjustthebedknifetothereelsothatlight
contactisevident.
2.Operatethelappingmachinesothatthereel
turnsinareversedirection.Applylapping
solutioncontinuouslyandmaintainlight
bedknife-to-reelcontact.
3.Stopthelappingmachineperiodicallytocheck
thecuttingsurfacesforsharpness.Continue
lappinguntilthesharpcuttingedgeshavebeen
restored.
Note:Ifthecuttingedgesareseverelyrounded,
bothsharpeningandlappingmayberequired.
4.Washoffallthelappingsolution.Usingpaper,
checkforsharpnessalongtheentirelengthof
eachreelblade.Ifthepapercannotbecut
cleanlyalongtheentirelengthofeachreel
blade,continuedlappingisnecessary.
ReplacingtheBedknife
1.Toreplacethebedknife,removethe11screws
holdingtheknifetothebedbar.
2.Removetherust,scale,andcorrosionfromthe
bedbarsurfaceandapplyathinlayerofoilto
thebedbarsurface.
3.Cleanthescrewthreads.
4.Applyanti-seizecompoundtothescrewsand
installthebedknifetothebedbarasfollows
