Greasingthemower
Eachmowerhas(4)greasettings(Figure12)thatmustbe
lubricatedevery8hoursofoperationwithHeavyDuty2
wheelbearinggrease.

Note:Donotusehighpressurehosetocleanareas
wheretherearesealsorbearingsbecauseforeignmatter
willlikelybeforcedintothebearing.Theresultwillbe
rapidsealandbearingdeterioration.Lubricatingthe
mowerimmediatelyafterwashinghelpspurgewaterout
ofbearingsandincreasesbearinglife.
1.Wipeeachgreasettingwithacleanrag.
2.Applythegrease.Whenpressureisfeltwhilegreasing
theroller,thebearingcavitybetweenthesealsisfull.
Important:Donotcontinuetogreasebecause
theinnerbearingsealmaygetdamaged.
3.Wipeexcessgreaseaway.
ChangingtheGearCaseLubricant
Thegearcaseshavebeenfullylubricatedatthefactory.Once
eachseason,drainandcleantherightandleftgearcases.
Whenthegearcasesareclean,addSAE140gearlube;refer
toCheckingtheGearCaseOil.
AdjustingtheReelBearings
Ifendplayisevidentinthereelorifthemowerhasbeen
disassembled,anadjustmenttothereelbearingmaybe
necessary.
1.Removethe(4)screwssecuringtheleftwheeltothe
wheelhubandremovethewheel.Placethewheel
underthegearcaseforsupport.
2.Raiseandblockthebackofthemoweruntilthereis
0.178to0.203m(7to8inches)betweenthebottom
ofthegearcaseextendingbehindtherollerbracket
andthelevelsurface.
3.Removethe(3)capscrewssecuringtheinspection
covertothegearcasecover.
4.Insmallincrements,rotatetheadjustingnutonthereel
shaft,intheclockwisedirectiontoremoveallendplay
fromthereel.Makesuretoholdthereelsoitcannot
rotate.
5.Whentheendplayisremoved,rotatethenutan
additional1/4turntopreloadthebearing.
6.Reinstalltheinspectioncoverandthewheel..

Newandoldbedknivesshouldbegroundattachedtothe
bedbar;thisensuresrigidityduringgrindingandinsuresatrue
knife.RefertoFigure13whengrindingtheknivesandobtain
asnearaspossiblethereliefanglesindicated.Ingrinding,
avoidahardcontactbetweenknifeandgrindingwheel.If
hardcontactoccurs,excessiveheatbuildupwilltakeplace,
causingprematurewearingofthegrindingwheelandreduced
lifeoftheknife.
