3.Afterthebedknifehasbeengroundandis“true”,
performthefollowingadjustments:
AdjustingtheReel,Rollerand
WheelBearing
Aftertheinitial30operatinghours,checkthereelbearing,
rollerbearing,andwheelbearing.Thereafter,checkthese
partsevery200–250operatinghours.Ifnecessary,adjust
thereelbearing.Ifnecessary,adjusttherollerbearing.If
necessary,adjustthewheelbearing.
ServicingtheRoller
Disassembly
1.Removethebracketsandwashersfromeachendofthe
rollerandinspectthebushings.
2.Removeelasticstopnut.
Note:Aftertheelasticstopnuthasbeenremoved,
slidethesleeveofftherollershaft.Pointtheendof
rollerdownwardintoacontainer,atthesametime
pullingtherollershaftout,allowinglubricanttodrain
fromtheroller.
3.Iftherollershaftistobereplaced,removethedouble
jamnuts.
4.Removetheremainingsleeveandsealsfrombothends
oftheroller.
5.Removethebearingconesfromeachendoftheroller.
6.Removethebearingcupswithcaution.
7.Removetheinnersealsbyusingasealremover
Assembly
1.Lightlyoilthelipsoftheinnerseals.Installtheinner
sealsoneachendoftheroller,makingsurethatthe
garterspringsfaceinboard.
2.Replacethebearingcupsandinsertthebearingcones
intotheroller.
3.Lightlyoilthelipsoftheouterseals.Installtheouter
sealsoneachendoftheroller,makingsurethatthe
garterspringsfaceinboard.
4.Slideone(1)sleeveontotherollershaftagainstthe
doublejamnuts.
5.Wrapthethreadedareaoftherollershaftwith
cellophanetapetoprotecttheseals,andcarefullyslide
theshaftthroughtheright–handsideoftheroller.
Slidetherollershaftintotherolleruntilitpenetrates
theinnermostoilsealontheright–handside.
6.Pourapproximately0.0296liter(16ounces)ofSAE90
or140gearoilintotherollerhousing.
7.Aftertheoilhasbeenadded,carefullypushtheroller
shaftthroughtheentirerollerassembly.Removethe
cellophanetape.
8.Installthesleeveontotherollershaftandslideup
againstthebearingcone.
9.Installtheelasticstopnutandsecureitbyholdingthe
doublejamnuts.Tightentheelasticstopnut.
Note:Tightentheelasticstopnutuntilallaxialand
radialmotionhasbeenremovedfromtherollershaft
andbearings.Ensurethattherollerrotatesfreelyon
theshaft.
10.GreasethebearingswithHeavyDuty2wheelbearing
grease.
11.Reinstallthewashersandinstalltheleftandright–hand
bracketandthebushingassemblies.
Important:Afterthemowerhasbeencompletely
assembled,performthefollowingcritical
adjustments:
A.ChecktheReelBearingsandtheMowerFasteners.
B.SettheHeight–of–Cut
C.ParalleltheBedknifetotheReel
