Lower handle 3 No Parts Required Procedure Filling the Engine with Oil Secure the footstop to the bolt on the right side of the lower handle using a nut and 2 washers (Figure 6). No Parts Required Note: Install the footstop using the lower hole in the footstop as shown in Figure 6. Procedure Important: Your machine does not come with oil in the engine.

Checking the Engine Oil Level Service Interval: Before each use or daily 1. Move the machine to a level surface. 2. Remove the dipstick and wipe it with a clean cloth. 3. Starting the Engine Adjusting the Cutting Height 1. Place the throttle control to the choke position, ensure that the fuel switch is in the On position. WARNING Adjusting the cutting height may bring you into contact with the blade, causing serious injury. • Stop the engine and wait for all moving parts to stop. • Wear gloves while handling the blade. CAUTION g017346 If the engine has been running, the muffler will be hot and can severely burn you. Keep away from the hot muffler. Figure 14 2.

Operating Tips Stopping the Engine Service Interval: Before each use or daily General Mowing Tips To stop the engine, release the blade control bar (Figure 18). – Replace the blade or have the blade sharpened. – Walk at a slower pace while mowing. – Raise the cutting height on your machine. – Cut the grass more frequently. – Overlap cutting swaths instead of cutting a full swath with each pass. Cutting Leaves • After cutting the lawn, ensure that half of the lawn shows through the cut leaf cover. You may need to make more than one pass over the leaves. • Slow down your mowing speed if the machine does not cut the leaves finely enough.

Preparing for Maintenance 1. Stop the engine and wait for all moving parts to stop. 2. Disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug (Figure 19) before performing any maintenance procedure. Changing the Engine Oil Service Interval: After the first 5 hours Yearly 1. Ensure that the fuel tank contains little or no fuel so that fuel does not leak out when you tip the machine onto its side. 2. Run the engine a few minutes before changing the oil to warm it. Storage Store the machine in a cool, clean, dry place. Troubleshooting Problem The engine does not start Possible Cause 1. The wire is not connected to the spark plug. 1. Connect the wire to the spark plug. 2. The fuel cap vent hole is plugged. 2. Clean the fuel cap vent hole or replace the fuel cap. 3. Check the spark plug and adjust the gap if necessary. Replace the spark plug if it is pitted, fouled, or cracked. 4. Drain and/or fill the fuel tank with fresh gasoline. If the problem persists, contact an Authorized Service Dealer. 3.
