Beforeeachuseordaily
Checktheaircleanerbodyfordamagewhichcould
causeanairleak.Replaceifdamaged.Checkthe
wholeintakesystemforleaks,damageorloosehose
clamps.
Changingtheairlterbeforeitisnecessaryonly
increasesthechanceofdirtenteringtheenginewhen
thelterisremoved.
Important:Besurethecoverisseatedcorrectly
andsealswiththeaircleanerbody.
1.Opentheenginecover.
2.Releasethelatchessecuringtheaircleaner
covertotheaircleanerbody(Figure35).

3.Removethecoverfromtheaircleanerbody.
Beforeremovingthelter,uselowpressureair
(40psi,cleananddry)tohelpremovelarge
accumulationsofdebrispackedbetweenthe
outsideofthelterandthecanister.Avoid
usinghighpressureairwhichcouldforce
dirtthroughthelterintotheintaketract.
Thiscleaningprocesspreventsdebrisfrom
migratingintotheintakewhentheprimarylter
isremoved.
4.Removeandreplacetheprimarylter.
Cleaningoftheusedelementisnot
recommendedduetothepossibilityofdamage
totheltermedia.Inspectthenewlterfor
shippingdamage,checkingthesealingendof
thelterandthebody.Donotuseadamaged
element.Insertthenewlterbyapplying
pressuretotheouterrimoftheelementtoseat
itinthecanister.Donotapplypressuretothe
exiblecenterofthelter.
5.Cleanthedirtejectionportlocatedinthe
removablecover.Removetherubberoutlet
valvefromthecover,cleanthecavityand
replacetheoutletvalve.
6.Installthecoverorientingtherubberoutletvalve
inadownwardposition—betweenapproximately
5o’clockto7o’clockwhenviewedfromtheend.
