BleedingtheFuelSystem
Youmustbleedthefuelsystembeforestartingthe
engineafteranyofthefollowingsituations:
Initialstartupofanewmachine
Enginehasceasedrunningduetolackoffuel
Maintenancehasbeenperformeduponfuel
systemcomponents(i.e.,replacedlter,serviced
separator,etc.)
DANGER
Undercertainconditions,dieselfuelandfuel
vaporsarehighlyammableandexplosive.A
reorexplosionfromfuelcanburnyouand
othersandcancausepropertydamage.
Useafunnelandllthefueltankoutdoors,
inanopenarea,whentheengineisoffand
iscold.Wipeupanyfuelthatspills.
Donotllthefueltankcompletelyfull.Add
fueltothefueltankuntilthelevelis6to13
mm(1/4to1/2inches)belowthebottom
ofthellerneck.Thisemptyspaceinthe
tankallowsthefueltoexpand.
Neversmokewhenhandlingfuel,andstay
awayfromanopenameorwherefuel
fumesmaybeignitedbyaspark.
Storefuelinaclean,safety-approved
containerandkeepthecapinplace.
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurfaceandensure
thatthefueltankisatleasthalffull.
2.Openthehood.
3.TurnthekeyintheignitionswitchtotheON
positionandcranktheengine.
Note:Themechanicalpumpwillsuckfuelout
ofthetank,llthefuellterandfuelhoseand
forcetheairintotheengine.Thiscouldtake
sometimetofullypurgealltheairoutofthe
systemandtheenginemightreerraticallyuntil
allairispurgedout.Whenallairispurgedand
theengineisrunningsmoothly,itshouldberun
forafewminutestoensurethatitisfullypurged.

andholderassembly(Figure40).
