•Disconnectthebatterybeforerepairingthe
machine.Disconnectthenegativeterminalrst
andthepositivelast.Connectthepositiveterminal
rstandthenegativelast.
•Chargethebatteryinanopen,well-ventilated
area,awayfromsparksandames.Unplugthe
chargerbeforeconnectingordisconnectingthe
battery.Wearprotectiveclothinganduseinsulated
tools.
ServicingtheBattery
ServiceInterval:Every25hours—Checkthe
electrolytelevel(ifmachineisin
storage,checkevery30days).
DANGER
Batteryelectrolytecontainssulfuricacid
whichisfatalifconsumedandcausessevere
burns.
•Donotdrinkelectrolyteandavoidcontact
withyourskin,eyes,orclothing.Weareye
protectionandrubbergloves.
•Fillthebatterywherecleanwaterisalways
availableforushingtheskin.
WARNING
Incorrectbatterycableroutingcoulddamage
thetractorandcables,causingsparks.
Sparkscancausethebatterygassesto
explode,resultinginpersonalinjury.
•Alwaysdisconnectthenegative(black)
batterycablebeforedisconnectingthe
positive(red)cable.
•Alwaysconnectthepositive(red)battery
cablebeforeconnectingthenegative
(black)cable.
1.Preparethemachineformaintenance;referto
PreparingforMaintenance(page42).
2.Removethebatterycover;refertoRemoving
theBatteryCover(page43).
3.Removethellercapsofthebattery.
4.Maintainthebatteryelectrolytelevelinthe
batterycellswithdistilledordemineralizedwater.
Note:Donotllthecellsabovethebottomof
thesplitringinsideeachcell.
5.Installthellercapswiththeventspointingto
therear(towardthefueltank).
6.Cleanthetopofthebatterybywashingit
periodicallywithabrushdippedinammonia
orbicarbonateofsodasolution.Flushthetop
surfacewithwateraftercleaning.
Important:Donotremovethellercaps
whilecleaning.
7.Checkthebatterycableclampsandbattery
postsforcorrosion.Ifcorrosionoccurs,perform
thefollowing:
A.Disconnectthenegative(–)batterycable.
B.Disconnectthepositive(+)batterycable.
C.Cleantheclampsandpostsseparately.
D.Connectthepositive(+)batterycable.
E.Connectthenegative(–)batterycable.
F.Coattheclampsandterminalswithbattery
terminalprotector.
8.Checkthatthebatterycableclampsaretighton
thebatteryposts.
9.Installthebatterycover.
Note:Storethemachinewherethetemperatureis
coolerratherthanwarmertopreventthebatteryfrom
dischargingmorerapidly.
