BladeSafety
Awornordamagedbladeorbedknifecanbreak,and
apiececouldbethrowntowardyouorbystanders,
resultinginseriouspersonalinjuryordeath.
Inspectthebladesandbedknivesperiodicallyfor
excessivewearordamage.
Usecarewhencheckingtheblades.Weargloves
andusecautionwhenservicingthem.Only
replaceorbacklapthebladesandbedknives;
neverstraightenorweldthem.
Onmachineswithmultiplecuttingunits,takecare
whenrotatingacuttingunit;itcancausethereels
intheothercuttingunitstorotate.

ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily
Checkthereel-to-bedknifecontactevenifthequality
ofcuthadbeenacceptablepreviously.Theremust
belightcontactacrossthefulllengthofthereeland
bedknife;refertoAdjustingReeltoBedknifeinthe
cuttingunitoperatorsmanual.
BacklappingtheCutting
Units
DANGER
Contactingthereelsmaycausepersonal
injuryordeath.
Neverplaceyourhandsorfeetinthereel
areawhiletheengineisrunning.
Whilebacklapping,thereelsmaystalland
thenstartagain.
Donotattempttostartreelsagainwith
yourhandorfoot.
Donotadjustthereelswhiletheengineis
running.
Ifthereelstalls,shutofftheenginebefore
attemptingtoclearthereel.
1.Parkthemachineonacleanandlevelsurface,
lowerthecuttingunits,shutofftheengine,
engagetheparkingbrake,andremovethekey
fromtheignitionswitch.
2.Removetheconsolecovertoexposethe
controls.
3.Rotatethebacklapcontroltothebacklap
position(R).Rotatethereelspeedcontrolto
position1(Figure74).

Note:Theseatswitchisbypassedwhenthe
backlapcontrolisinthebacklapposition.You
donotneedtobeintheseat,buttheparking
brakemustbeengagedfortheenginetorun.
Important:Donotrotatethebacklap
controlfromthemowpositiontothebacklap
positionwhileengineisrunning.Otherwise,
youmaydamagethereels.
4.Maketheinitialreel-to-bedknifeadjustments
appropriateforbacklappingonallcuttingunits.
Starttheengineandsetittolowidlespeed.
5.EngagethereelsbyengagingthePTOswitch
onthecontrolpanel.
6.Applylappingcompoundwithlong-handled
brush.
7.T oadjustthecuttingunitswhilebacklapping,
disengagethereelsandturntheengineoff.
Afteryouhavemadetheadjustments,repeat
steps4through6.
8.Afterbacklapping,shutofftheengine,rotate
thebacklapcontroltothemowposition(F),set
thereelspeedcontrolstothedesiredmowing
setting,andwashallthelappingcompoundoff
thecuttingunits.
