CheckingandAdjustingthe
CuttingUnit
Thedualknobbedknife-to-reeladjustmentsystem
incorporatedinthiscuttingunitsimpliesthe
adjustmentprocedureneededtodeliveroptimum
mowingperformance.Thepreciseadjustment
possiblewiththedualknob/bedbardesigngives
thenecessarycontroltoprovideacontinual
self-sharpeningaction-thusmaintainingsharpcutting
edges,ensuringgoodqualityofcut,andgreatly
reducingtheneedforroutinebacklapping.
Priortomowingeachday,orasrequired,checkeach
cuttingunittoverifyproperbedknife-to-reelcontact.
Thismustbeperformedeventhoughthequality
ofcutisacceptable.
1.Slowlyrotatethereelinareversedirection,
listeningforreel-to-bedknifecontact.
Note:Theadjustmentknobshavedetents
correspondingto0.018mm(0.0007inch)
bedknifemovementforeachindexedposition.

2.Testthecuttingperformancebyinsertinga
longstripofcuttingperformancepaper(T oro
Part125-5610)betweenreelandbedknife,
perpendiculartothebedknife(Figure20).Slowly
rotatethereelforward;itshouldcutthepaper.

Important:Lightcontactispreferred
atalltimes.Ifyoudonotmaintainlight
contact,thebedknifeandreeledgeswill
notsufcientlyself-sharpenandwilldull
afteraperiodofoperation.Ifyoumaintain
excessivecontact,thebedknifeandreelwill
wearquicker,wearunevenly,andthequality
ofcutmaybeadverselyaffected.
Note:Afterextendedrunning,aridgewill
eventuallydevelopatbothendsofthebedknife.
Roundofforlethesenotchesushwiththe
cuttingedgeofthebedknifetoensuresmooth
operation.
Note:Overtime,youwillneedtogrindthe
chamfer(Figure21),asitisonlydesignedtolast
40%ofthebedknifelife.
