SITUATION:
The traction system may bind causing extended stopping distance.
This condition has been traced to Ball Joint (2411-41) which can bind or seize.
It is very easy to misidentify the cable as the cause of the binding and in some cases hydrostats have
been changed in error.
Use the following troubleshooting tips to verify if Ball Joint (2411-41) is at fault or which component is
creating the complaint.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Replace any Ball Joints that do not rotate and swivel freely.
Troubleshooting Tips:
1) Test-drive the unit on flat ground away from any obstacles and at transport speed; take your
foot off the traction pedal.
a. If the unit stops normally, there is no problem. You may want to compare to a different
unit that operates as expected.
b. If the unit takes too long to stop, go to step 2.
2) Loosen the hardware retaining both Ball Joints until the bolts rotate easily. (Do not remove at
this time) Retest (see step 1).
a. If the unit stops normally, replace any Ball Joint that does not rotate freely.
b. If the unit still takes too long to stop, go to step 3.
3) Verify the cables are free by pushing and pulling the core.
a. If cable moves freely, go to step 4.
b. If cable binds or sticks, replace the cable.
4) Remove the dampener and retest.
a. If unit stops normally, replace dampener.
b. If unit still takes too long to stop, repair hydrostat.
