CuttingUnitSafety
Awornordamagedcuttingunitcanbreak,anda
pieceofareelorbedknifecouldbethrownatyou
orbystanders,resultinginseriouspersonalinjuryor
death.
Inspectthecuttingunitsperiodicallyforwearor
damage.
Usecarewhencheckingthecuttingunits.Wrap
thebladesorweargloves,andusecautionwhen
servicingthereelsandbedknives.Onlyreplaceor
sharpenthereelsandbedknives;neverstraighten
orweldthem.
Onmulti-bladedmachines,takecareasrotating1
reelcancauseotherbladestorotate.
BacklappingtheCutting

WARNING
Contactwiththereelsorothermovingparts
canresultinpersonalinjury.
Keepngers,hands,andclothingaway
fromthereelsorothermovingparts.
Neverattempttoturnthereelsbyhandor
footwhiletheengineisrunning.
Note:Whenbacklapping,thefrontunitsalloperate
together,andtherearunitsoperatetogether.
1.Positionthemachineonalevelsurface,lower
thecuttingunits,shutofftheengine,engagethe
parkingbrake,andmovetheEnable/Disable
switchtotheDISABLEposition.
2.Unlockandraisetheseattoexposethebacklap
levers(Figure107).
3.Makeinitialreel-to-bedknifeadjustments
appropriateforbacklappingonallcuttingunits
thataretobebacklapped;refertotheOperator's
Manualforthecuttingunits.
4.Starttheengineandrunatlowidlespeed.
DANGER
Changingtheenginespeedwhile
backlappingmaycausethereelstostall.
Neverchangetheenginespeedwhile
backlapping.
Backlaponlyatlowengine-idlespeed.
5.Selecteitherfront,rear,orbothbacklapleversto
determinewhichunitstobacklap(Figure107).
DANGER
Toavoidpersonalinjury,becertainthat
youareclearofthecuttingunitsbefore
proceeding.
6.WiththeMow/TransportleverintheMOW
position,movetheEnable/Disableswitchto
theENABLEposition.MovetheLowerMow/Lift
controlforwardtostartthebacklappingoperation
onthedesignatedreels.
7.Applylappingcompoundwithalong-handled
brush.
Important:Neveruseashort-handled
brush.
8.Ifthereelsstallorbecomeerraticwhile
backlapping,selectahigherreel-speedsetting
