BladeSafety
Awornordamagedbladeorbedknifecanbreak,anda
piececouldbethrowntowardyouorbystanders,resulting
inseriouspersonalinjuryordeath.
•Inspectthebladesandbedknivesperiodicallyfor
excessivewearordamage.
•Usecarewhencheckingtheblades.Wearglovesand
usecautionwhenservicingthem.Onlyreplaceor
backlapthebladesandbedknives;neverstraightenor
weldthem.
•Onmachineswithmultiplecuttingunits,takecarewhen
rotatingacuttingunit;itcancausethereelsintheother
cuttingunitstorotate.
CheckingtheReel-to-BedknifeContact
ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily
Checkthereel-to-bedknifecontact,regardlessofwhether
thequalityofcuthadpreviouslybeenacceptable.There
mustbelightcontactacrossthefulllengthofthereeland
thebedknife(refertoAdjustingtheReeltoBedknifeinthe
cuttingunitOperator'sManual).
BacklappingtheCuttingUnits
WARNING
Contactwiththecuttingunitsorothermovingparts
canresultinpersonalinjury.
•Keepyourngers,hands,andclothingawayfrom
thecuttingunitsandothermovingparts.
•Neverattempttoturnthecuttingunitsbyhandor
footwhiletheengineisrunning.

PreparingtheMachine
1.Preparethemachineformaintenance;referto
PreparingforMaintenance(page52).
2.PresstheEnable/DisableswitchtoDISABLEposition.
3.Makeinitialreel-to-bedknifeadjustmentsappropriate
forbacklappingonallcuttingunitswhichareto
bebacklapped;refertothecuttingunitOperator's
Manual.
4.Unlockandraisetheseattoexposethemower
manifold(Figure152).

leverstocontrolwhichcuttingunitstobacklap.
Whenbacklapping,thefrontcuttingunitsalloperate
together,andtherearcuttingunitsoperatetogether.
LappingtheReelsandBedknife
DANGER
Changingtheenginespeedwhilebacklappingmay
causethereelstostall.
•Neverchangetheenginespeedwhilebacklapping.
•Onlybacklapatidleenginespeed.
1.Starttheengineandrunatlowidlespeed.
2.WiththeMow/TransportleverintheMOWposition,
movetheEnable/DisableswitchtotheENABLE
position.MovetheLowerMow/Liftcontrolforward
tostartthebacklappingoperationonthedesignated
reels.
3.Applylappingcompoundwithalong-handledbrush.
DANGER
Contactingthecuttingunitswhentheyaremoving
couldcausepersonalinjury.
Toavoidpersonalinjury,becertainthatyouare
clearofthecuttingunitsbeforeproceeding.
