StorageSafety
Beforeyouleavetheoperatorsposition,dothe
following:
Parkthemachineonalevelsurface.
Disengageandlowerthecuttingunits.
Engagetheparkingbrake.
Shutofftheengineandremovethekey.
Waitforallmovementtostop.
Allowthemachinetocoolbeforeadjusting,
servicing,cleaning,orstoringit.
Donotstorethemachineorfuelcontainerwherethere
isanopename,spark,orpilotlight,suchasona
waterheaterorotherappliance.
PreparingtheTractionUnit
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthecutting
units,engagetheparkingbrake,shutofftheengine,
andremovethekey.
2.Thoroughlycleanthetractionunit,cuttingunits,and
theengine.
3.Checkthetirepressure;refertoCheckingtheTire
AirPressure(page66).
4.Checkallfastenersforlooseness;tightenthemas
necessary.
5.Greaseoroilallgreasettingsandpivotpoints.Wipe
upanyexcesslubricant.
6.Lightlysandandusetouch-uppaintonpaintedareas
thatarescratched,chipped,orrusted.Repairany
dentsinthemetalbody.
7.Servicethebatteryandcablesasfollows;referto
ElectricalSystemSafety(page63):
A.Removethebatteryterminalsfromthebattery
posts.
B.Cleanthebattery,terminals,andpostswitha
wirebrushandbaking-sodasolution.
C.Coatthecableterminalsandbatterypostswith
Grafo112Xskin-overgrease(ToroPartNo.
505-47)orpetroleumjellytopreventcorrosion.
D.Slowlychargethebatteryevery60daysfor24
hourstopreventleadsulfationofthebattery.
PreparingtheEngine
1.Draintheengineoilfromtheoilpanandinstallthe
drainplug.
2.Removeanddiscardtheoillter.Installanewoillter.
3.Filltheenginewithspeciedmotoroil.
4.Starttheengineandrunitatidlespeedfor
approximately2minutes.
5.Shutofftheengineandremovethekey.
6.Flushthefueltankwithfresh,cleanfuel.
7.Secureallfuel-systemttings.
8.Thoroughlycleanandservicetheair-cleaner
assembly.
9.Sealtheair-cleanerinletandtheexhaustoutletwith
weatherprooftape.
10.Checktheantifreezeprotectionandadda50/50
solutionofwaterandethyleneglycolantifreezeas
neededfortheexpectedminimumtemperaturein
yourarea.
StoringtheBattery
Ifyouarestoringthemachineformorethan30days,
removethebatteryandchargeitfully.Eitherstoreitonthe
shelforonthemachine.Leavethecablesdisconnectedif
theyarestoredonthemachine.Storethebatteryinacool
atmospheretoavoidquickdeteriorationofthechargeinthe
battery.Topreventthebatteryfromfreezing,ensurethat
itisfullycharged.Thespecicgravityofafullycharged
batteryis1.265to1.299.
