UnderstandingtheDiagnosticLight
Themachineisequippedwithadiagnosticlight,which
indicatesifthemachinedetectsamalfunction.The
diagnosticlightislocatedontheInfoCenter,above
thedisplayscreen(Figure57).Whenthemachineis
functioningproperlyandthekeyswitchismovedtothe
ON/RUNposition,thediagnosticlightturnsonbrieyto
indicatethatthelightisworkingproperly.Whenamachine
advisorymessageappears,thelightilluminateswhenthe
messageispresent.Whenafaultmessageappears,the
lightblinksuntilthefaultisresolved.

DieselParticulateFilterRegeneration
Thedieselparticulatelter(DPF)ispartoftheexhaust
system.Thediesel-oxidationcatalystoftheDPFreduces
harmfulgassesandthesootlterremovessootfromthe
engineexhaust.
TheDPFregenerationprocessusesheatfromtheengine
exhausttoincineratethesootaccumulatedonthesootlter,
convertingthesoottoash,andclearsthechannelsofthe
sootltersothatlteredengineexhaustowsouttheDPF .
Theenginecomputermonitorstheaccumulationofsoot
bymeasuringthebackpressureintheDPF .Iftheback
pressureistoohigh,sootisnotincineratinginthesootlter
throughnormalengineoperation.TokeeptheDPFclearof
soot,rememberthefollowing:
•Passiveregenerationoccurscontinuouslywhilethe
engineisrunning—runtheengineatfullenginespeed
whenpossibletopromoteDPFregeneration.
•IfthebackpressureintheDPFistoohighorareset
regenerationhasnotoccurredfor100hours,theengine
computersignalsyouthroughtheInfoCenterwhen
resetregenerationisrunning.
•Allowtheresetregenerationprocesstocompletebefore
shuttingofftheengine.
Operateandmaintainyourmachinewiththefunctionofthe
DPFinmind.Engineloadathighidle(fullthrottle)engine
speedgenerallyproducesadequateexhausttemperature
forDPFregeneration.
Important:Minimizetheamountoftimethatyouidle
theengineoroperatetheengineatlow-enginespeedto
helpreducetheaccumulationofsootinthesootlter.
DPFSootAccumulation
•Overtime,thedieselparticulatelteraccumulatessoot
inthesootlter.Thecomputerfortheenginemonitors
thesootlevelintheDPF.
•Whenenoughsootaccumulates,thecomputerinforms
youthatitistimetoregeneratetheDPF.
•DPFregenerationisaprocessthatheatstheDPFto
convertthesoottoash.
•Inadditiontothewarningmessages,thecomputer
reducesthepowerproducedbytheengineatdifferent
soot-accumulationlevels.
