AdjustingtheParkingBrakes
Adjusttheservicebrakeswhenthereismorethan13mm
(1/2inch)offreetravelofthebrakepedal,orifthebrakes
slip.Freetravelisthedistancethebrakepedalmoves
beforeyoufeelbraking-pedalresistance.
1.Preparethemachine,refertoPreparingfor
Maintenance(page52).
2.Releasetheparkingbrake.
3.Usethewheel-motorbacklashtorockthedrumsback
andforthtoensurethattheyarefree,priortoand
aftertheadjustment.
4.Lightlypressthebrakepedal;andmeasurethe
distancethepedalmoveswithoutresistance(Figure
143).
Note:Adjustthebrakesifthereismorethan2.5cm
(1inch)offreetravel(Figure143)ofthebrakepedal,
orifmoreparking-brakeforceisrequired.

6.Tightentherearnutstomovethecablebackward,

7.Tightenthefrontjamnuts,ensuringthatbothcables
actuatethebrakessimultaneously.
Note:Ensurethatthecableconduitdoesnotrotate
whiletighteningthejamnuts.
