Safety
Thismachinehasbeendesignedinaccordancewith
ENISO5395:2013(whenappropriatedecalsare
applied)andANSIB71.4-2012.
Improperlyusingormaintainingthemachinecan
resultininjury.Toreducethepotentialforinjury,
complywiththesesafetyinstructionsandalways
payattentiontothesafetyalertsymbol,which
meansCaution,Warning,orDanger—personal
safetyinstruction.Failuretocomplywiththe
instructionmayresultinpersonalinjuryordeath.

ThefollowinginstructionsarefromtheENISO
5395:2013andANSIB71.4-2012.
Training
•ReadtheOperator'sManualandothertraining
materialcarefully.Befamiliarwiththecontrols,
safetysigns,andtheproperuseoftheequipment.
•Neverallowchildrenorpeopleunfamiliarwith
theseinstructionstouseorservicethemower.
Localregulationsmayrestricttheageofthe
operator.
•Nevermowwhilepeople,especiallychildren,or
petsarenearby.
•Keepinmindthattheoperatororuseris
responsibleforaccidentsorhazardsoccurringto
otherpeopleortheirproperty.
•Donotcarrypassengers.
•Alldriversandmechanicsshouldseekand
obtainprofessionalandpracticalinstruction.The
ownerisresponsiblefortrainingtheusers.Such
instructionshouldemphasizethetheneedfor
careandconcentrationwhenworkingwithride-on
machines.
•Theowner/usercanpreventandisresponsible
foraccidentsorinjuriesoccurringtopeopleor
damagetoproperty.
Preparation
•Wearappropriateclothing,includingeye
protection;substantial,slip-resistantfootwear;and
hearingprotection.Tiebacklonghair.Donot
wearjewelry.
•Thoroughlyinspecttheareawheretheequipment
istobeusedandremoveallobjectswhichmaybe
thrownbythemachine.
•Evaluatetheterraintodeterminewhataccessories
andattachmentsareneededtoproperlyand
safelyperformthejob.Useonlyaccessoriesand
attachmentsapprovedbythemanufacturer.
•Checkthatoperator’spresencecontrols,safety
switches,andshieldsareattachedandfunctioning
properly.Donotoperatethemachineunlessthey
arefunctioningproperly.
Operation
•Donotoperatetheengineinaconnedspace
wheredangerouscarbonmonoxideandother
exhaustgassescancollect.
•Mowonlyindaylightoringoodarticiallight.
•Beforeattemptingtostarttheengine,disengage
allbladeattachmentclutches,shiftintoneutral,
andengagetheparkingbrake.Starttheengine
onlyfromtheoperator’sposition.Neverremove
theROPSandalwaysweartheseatbeltsduring
operation.
•Donotputhandsorfeetnearorunderrotating
parts.Keepclearofthedischargeopeningatall
times.
•Rememberthatthereisnosuchthingasa
safeslope.Travelongrassslopesrequires
particularcare.Dothefollowingtoguardagainst
overturning:
–Donotstoporstartsuddenlywhengoingup
ordownhill.
–Keepmachinespeedslowonslopesand
duringtightturns.
–Stayalertforhumpsandhollowsandother
hiddenhazards.
–Nevermowacrossthefaceoftheslope,unless
themowerisdesignedforthispurpose.
•Stayalertforholesintheterrainandotherhidden
hazards.
•Watchoutfortrafcwhencrossingornear
roadways.
•Stopthebladesfromrotatingbeforecrossing
surfacesotherthangrass.
•Whenusinganyattachments,neverdirect
dischargeofmaterialtowardbystandersnorallow
anyonenearthemachinewhileinoperation.
•Neveroperatethemachinewithdamagedguards,
shields,orwithoutsafetyprotectivedevicesin
place.Besurethatallinterlocksareattached,
adjustedproperly,andfunctioningproperly.
•Donotchangetheenginegovernorsettingsor
overspeedtheengine.Operatingtheengineat
excessivespeedmayincreasethehazardof
personalinjury.
