•Dothefollowingbeforeleavingtheoperator’s
position:
–Stopthemachineonlevelground.
–Disengagethepowertake-offandlowerthe
attachments.
–Shiftthetransmissionintoneutralandsetthe
parkingbrake.
–Shutofftheengineandremovethekey.
•Disengagethedrivetoattachments,shutoff
theengine,andremovetheignitionkeyinthe
followingconditions:
–Beforemakingheightadjustments,unlessthe
adjustmentcanbemadefromtheoperator’s
position.
–Beforeclearingblockages
–Beforechecking,cleaning,orworkingonthe
mower
–Afterstrikingaforeignobjectorifanabnormal
vibrationoccurs(checkimmediately).Inspect
thecuttingunitsfordamageandmakerepairs
beforestartingandoperatingtheequipment.
•Disengagethedrivetoattachmentswhen
transportingorwhenmachineisnotinuse.
•Shutofftheengineanddisengagethedriveto
attachmentsbeforethefollowing:
–Refueling
–Makingaheightadjustment,unlessyoucan
maketheadjustmentfromtheoperator's
position
•Reducethethrottlesettingbeforeshuttingoffthe
engineand,iftheenginecomeswithafuel-shutoff
valve,turnthefueloffattheconclusionofmowing.
•Keephandsandfeetawayfromthecuttingunits.
•Lookbehindanddownbeforebackinguptobe
sureofaclearpath.
•Slowdownandusecautionwhenmakingturns
andcrossingroadsandsidewalks.
•Donotoperatethemachinewhiletired,ill,or
undertheinuenceofalcoholordrugs.
•Lightningcancausesevereinjuryordeath.Ifyou
seelightningorhearthunderinthearea,donot
operatethemachine;seekshelter.
•Turnonashingwarninglights,ifprovided,
whenevertravelingonapublicroad,exceptwhere
suchuseisprohibitedbylaw.
RolloverProtectionSystem
(ROPS)—UseandMaintenance
•TheROPSisanintegralsafetydevice.Usethe
seatbeltwhenoperatingthemachine.
•Becertainthattheseatbeltcanbereleased
quicklyintheeventofanemergency.
•Checktheareatobemowed.
•Checkcarefullyforoverheadclearances(i.e.,
branches,doorways,electricalwires)before
drivingunderanyobjectsanddonotcontactthem.
•KeeptheROPSinsafeoperatingconditionby
periodicallythoroughlyinspectingfordamageand
keepingallmountingfastenerstight.
•ReplaceadamagedROPS.Donotrepairor
revise.
•DonotremovetheROPS.
•AnyalterationstoaROPSmustbeapprovedby
themanufacturer.
SafeHandlingofFuels
•Toavoidpersonalinjuryorpropertydamage,
useextremecareinhandlinggasoline.Fuelis
extremelyammableandthevaporsareexplosive.
•Extinguishallcigarettes,cigars,pipes,andother
sourcesofignition.
•Useonlyanapprovedfuelcontainer.
•Neverremovethefuelcaporaddfuelwiththe
enginerunning.
•Allowenginetocoolbeforerefueling.
•Neverrefuelthemachineindoors.
•Neverstorethemachineorfuelcontainerwhere
thereisanopename,spark,orpilotlight,such
asonawaterheateroronotherappliances.
•Neverllcontainersinsideavehicleoronatruck
ortrailerbedwithaplasticliner.Alwaysplace
containersontheground,awayfromyourvehicle,
beforelling.
•Removeequipmentfromthetruckortrailerand
refuelitontheground.Ifthisisnotpossible,then
refuelsuchequipmentwithaportablecontainer
ratherthanfromafueldispensernozzle.
•Keepthenozzleincontactwiththerimofthefuel
tankorcontaineropeningatalltimesuntilfueling
iscomplete.
•Donotuseanozzlelock-opendevice.
•Iffuelisspilledonclothing,changeclothing
immediately.
•Neveroverllthefueltank.Installthefuelcapand
tightenitsecurely.
SlopeSafety
•Slowdownthemachineanduseextracareon
hillsides.Travelintherecommendeddirectionon
hillsides.Turfconditionscanaffectthestabilityof
themachine.
•Avoidstarting,stopping,orturningthemachine
onaslope.Ifthetireslosetraction,disengage
