ServicingtheAirCleaner
Checktheaircleanerbodyfordamagewhichcould
causeanairleak.Replaceifdamaged.Checkthe
wholeintakesystemforleaks,damageorloosehose
clamps.
Servicetheaircleanerlteronlywhentheservice
indicator(Figure69)requiresit.Changingtheairlter
beforeitisnecessaryonlyincreasesthechanceof
dirtenteringtheenginewhenthelterisremoved.
Important:Besurethecoverisseatedcorrectly
andsealswiththeaircleanerbody.
1.Releasethelatchessecuringtheaircleaner
covertotheaircleanerbody(Figure69).

2.Removethecoverfromtheaircleanerbody.
Beforeremovingthelter,uselowpressureair
(40psi,cleananddry)tohelpremovelarge
accumulationsofdebrispackedbetweenoutside
ofthelterandthecanister.Avoidusinghigh
pressureairwhichcouldforcedirtthrough
thelterintotheintaketract.
Thiscleaningprocesspreventsdebrisfrom
migratingintotheintakewhenthelteris
removed.
3.Removeandreplacethelter(Figure70).
Cleaningoftheusedelementisnot
recommendedduetothepossibilityofdamage
totheltermedia.Inspectthenewlterfor
shippingdamage,checkingthesealingendof
thelterandthebody.Donotuseadamaged
element.Insertthenewlterbyapplying
pressuretotheouterrimoftheelementtoseat
itinthecanister.Donotapplypressuretothe
exiblecenterofthelter.

replacetheoutletvalve.

Important:UsingengineoilotherthanAPICJ-4
orhigher,ACEAE6,orJASODH-2maycausethe
dieselparticulateltertoplugorcauseengine
damage.
Usethefollowingengineoilviscositygrade:
•Preferredoil:SAE15W-40(above0°F)
•Alternateoil:SAE10W-30or5W-30(all
temperatures)
ToroPremiumEngineOilisavailablefromyour
AuthorizedT oroDistributorineither15W-40or
10W-30viscositygrades.Seethepartscatalogfor
partnumbers.
