Situation:
The brakes for the 5010 series can be noisy or grabby after releasing the parking brake. Brake noise
and brake grabbing is primarily attributed to the brake shoes not returning to their at-rest position.
Instructions:
To correct brake noise or grabbing:
1) Eliminate the Brake Assembly as the issue:
a. Disconnect the brake cables at the shoe actuator.
b. Drive the unit. If the issue remains, the Brakes are the cause of the issue and
will need to be dismantled to determine the source of the issue. Refer to the
Service Manual for further information.
c. If disconnecting the Brake Cables at the actuator eliminates the issue, continue
to step 2.
2) Verify the Brake cable moves freely when disconnected at both ends.
a. If the cables are sticky, cut any cable ties that hold the Brake Cable to allow the
cable to lie naturally.
i. Cable moves freely – tie in natural position.
ii. Cable is still sticky – replace cables with current cable.
LH Brake Cable (110-9037), RH Brake Cable (110-9036)
b. If the cables move freely – adjust brake cables.
i. Attach the actuator end first.
ii. Both cables need to be adjusted equally.
iii. Attach each cable to the pedal. Verify the Clevis Pin rotates freely
indicating the cable is not under tension.
(Note: The brake pedal is not supposed to touch the floorboard. Do not adjust so
the pedal touches the floorboard or a bind can be induced into the cable and the
problem will not be resolved.)
iv. Replace the cables if adjustment proves ineffective.
