OperatingCharacteristics
Practicedrivingthemachinebecauseithasahydrostatic
transmissionanditscharacteristicsaredifferentthanmany
turf-maintenancemachines.Somepointstoconsider
whenoperatingthetractionunitandcuttingunitsarethe
transmission,enginespeed,loadonthecuttingblades,and
theimportanceofthebrakes.
Tomaintainenoughpowerforthemachinewhileoperating,
regulatethetractionpedaltokeeptheenginespeedhighand
somewhatconstant.Agoodruletofollowistodecreasethe
groundspeedastheloadonthecuttingunitsincreases,and
increasethegroundspeedastheloaddecreases.
Therefore,allowthetractionpedaltomovebackwardasthe
enginespeeddecreases,andpressthepedalslowlyasthe
speedincreases.Bycomparison,whendrivingfromonework
areatoanother,withnoloadandthecuttingunitraised,have
thethrottleintheFASTpositionandpressthetractionpedal
slowlybutfullytoattainmaximumgroundspeed.
Anothercharacteristictoconsideristheoperationofthe
pedalsthatareconnectedtothebrakes.Youcanusethe
brakestoassistinturningthemachine.However,usethem
carefully,especiallyonsoftorwetgrass,becausetheturf
maybetornaccidentally.Anotherbenetofthebrakesisto
maintaintraction.Forexample,insomeslopeconditions,the
uphillwheelslipsandlosestraction.Ifthissituationoccurs,
presstheuphillturnpedalgraduallyandintermittentlyuntil
theuphillwheelstopsslipping,thusincreasingtractionon
thedownhillwheel.
Useextracarewhenoperatingthemachineonslopes.Make
surethattheseatlatchisproperlysecuredandtheseatbelt
isbuckled.Driveslowlyandavoidsharpturnsonslopesto
preventrollovers.Forsteeringcontrol,thecuttingunitmust
beloweredwhengoingdownhill.
Important:Allowenginetoidlefor5minutesbefore
shuttingitoffafterafullloadoperation.Thisallowsthe
turbochargertocooldownbeforeshuttingtheengine
off.Failuretodosomayleadtoturbochargertrouble.
Beforestoppingtheengine,disengageallcontrolsandmove
thethrottletoSLOW.MovingthethrottletoSLOWreduces
highenginespeed,noise,andvibration.TurnthekeytoOFF
tostoptheengine.
OperatingTips
BecomingFamiliarwiththeMachine
Beforemowinggrass,practiceoperatingthemachineinan
openarea.Startandstoptheengine.Operateinforwardand
reverse.Lowerandraisethecuttingunitsandengageand
disengagethereels.Whenyoufeelfamiliarwiththemachine,
practiceoperatingupanddownslopesatdifferentspeeds.
UnderstandingtheWarningSystem
Ifawarninglightcomesonduringoperation,stopthe
machineimmediatelyandcorrecttheproblembefore
continuingoperation.Seriousdamagecouldoccurifyou
operatethemachinewithamalfunction.
MowingGrass
Starttheengineandmovetheenginespeedswitchtothe
FASTposition.MovetheMowSpeedLimitertotheMOW
position.MovethePTOswitchtotheONpositionanduse
theLiftSwitchtocontrolthecuttingunits(thefrontcutting
unitsaretimedtolowerbeforetherearcuttingunits).To
moveforwardandcutgrass,pressthetractionpedalforward.
DrivingtheMachineinTransportMode
MovethePTOswitchtotheOffpositionandraisethe
cuttingunitstothetransportposition.MovetheMowSpeed
Limitertothetransportposition.Becarefulwhendriving
betweenobjectssothatyoudonotaccidentallydamagethe
machineorcuttingunits.Useextracarewhenoperatingthe
machineonslopes.Driveslowlyandavoidsharpturnson
slopestopreventrollovers.Lowerthecuttingunitswhen
goingdownhillforsteeringcontrol.
