AdjustingtheServiceBrakes
Adjusttheservicebrakeswhenthereismorethan2.5cm
(1inch)offreetravelofthebrakepedal,orwhenthebrakes
donotworkeffectively.Freetravelisthedistancethebrake
pedalmovesbeforebrakingresistanceisfelt.
1.Disengagelockingpinfrombrakepedalssoboth
pedalsworkindependentlyofeachother.
2.Toreducefreetravelofbrakepedals,tightenthebrakes
bylooseningthefrontnutonthethreadedendofthe
brakecable(Figure72).Thentightenrearnuttomove
cablebackwarduntilbrakepedalshave1.2to2.5cm
(1/2to1inch)offreetravel.Tightenfrontnutsafter
brakesareadjustedcorrectly.

Checkconditionandtensionofalternatorbeltafterevery
100hoursofoperation(Figure73).Replacebeltasrequired.
Checkthetensionasfollows:
1.Openhood.
2.Checktensionbydepressingbeltmidwaybetween
alternatorandcrankshaftpulleyswith97N(22lb)
offorce.Beltshoulddeect1.1cm(7/16inch)If
deectionisincorrect,proceedtostep3.Ifcorrect,
continueoperation.
