1.Positionthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthe
cuttingunits,stoptheengine,engagetheparking
brake,andmovetheEnable/Disableswitchto
disableposition.
2.Unlockandraisetheseattoexposecontrols.
3.Locatethereelspeedselectorknobsandbacklap
knobs(Figure83).Rotatethedesiredbacklap
knob(s)tothebacklappositionandthedesiredreel
speedselectorknob(s)toposition1.

Eachpositionwillincreasespeedapproximately100
rpm.Afterchangingselector,wait30secondsfor
thesystemtostabilizeatthenewspeed.
4.Makeinitialreeltobedknifeadjustmentsappropriate
forbacklappingonallcuttingunitswhicharetobe
backlapped.
5.Startengineandrunatidlespeed.
Contactwiththereelsorothermovingparts
canresultinpersonalinjury.
Keepnger,hands,andclothingawayfrom
thereelsandothermovingparts.
Neveruseashorthandlesbrushtoapply
lappingcompound.
6.Selecteitherfront,rear,orbothbacklapknobsto
determinewhichreelswillbebacklapped.
7.MoveEnable/DisableswitchtoEnableposition.
MoveLowerMow/Liftcontrolforwardtostart
backlappingoperationondesignatedreels.
8.Applylappingcompoundwithalonghandlebrush
(ToroPartNo.29-9100).Neveruseashorthandled
brush(Figure84).

9.Ifreelsstallorbecomeerraticwhilebacklapping,
stopbacklappingbymovingtheLowerMow/Lift
controlleverrearward.Oncethereelshavestopped,
movethedesiredreelspeedselectorknob(s)one
positioncloserto13.Resumebacklappingby
movingtheLowerMow/Liftcontrolleverforward.
10.Tomakeanadjustmenttothecuttingunits
whilebacklapping,turnreelsOffbymoving
theLowerMow/Raiseleverrearward;movethe
Enable/DisableswitchtoDisableandturnthe
engineOff.Afteradjustmentshavebeencompleted,
repeatsteps5through9.
11.Whenthecuttingunitisadequatelysharpened,a
burrwillformonthefrontedgeoftheknife.Using
ale,carefullyremovetheburrwithoutdullingthe
cuttingedge(Figure85).
