AdjustingtheServiceBrakes
Adjusttheservicebrakeswhenthereismorethan1inch
offreetravelofthebrakepedal,orwhenthebrakesdo
notworkeffectively.Freetravelisthedistancethebrake
pedalmovesbeforebrakingresistanceisfelt.
1.Disengagelockingpinfrombrakepedalssoboth
pedalsworkindependentlyofeachother.
2.Toreducefreetravelofbrakepedals,tightenthe
brakesbylooseningthefrontnutonthethreaded
endofthebrakecable(Figure75).Thentightenrear
nuttomovecablebackwarduntilbrakepedalshave
1/2to1inchoffreetravel.Tightenfrontnutsafter
brakesareadjustedcorrectly.

ServiceInterval:Every100hours
Checkconditionandtensionofalternatorbeltafter
every100hoursofoperation(Figure76).Replacebelt
asrequired.Checkthetensionasfollows:
1.Openhood.
2.Checktensionbydepressingbeltmidwaybetween
alternatorandcrankshaftpulleyswith22lb.offorce.
Beltshoulddeect7/16in.Ifdeectionisincorrect,
proceedtostep3.Ifcorrect,continueoperation.
