Improperlyusingormaintainingthemachinecan
resultininjury.Toreducethepotentialforinjury,
complywiththesesafetyinstructionsandalways
payattentiontothesafetyalertsymbol,which
meansCaution,Warning,orDanger—personal
safetyinstruction.Failuretocomplywiththe
instructionmayresultinpersonalinjuryordeath.

ReadtheOperator’sManualandothertraining
materialcarefully.Befamiliarwiththecontrols,
safetysigns,andtheproperuseoftheequipment.
Iftheoperatorormechaniccannotreadthe
languageofthismanual,itistheowners
responsibilitytoexplainthismaterialtothem.
Neverallowchildrenorpeopleunfamiliarwith
theseinstructionstouseorservicethemower.
Localregulationsmayrestricttheageofthe
operator.
Nevermowwhilepeople,especiallychildren,or
petsarenearby.
Keepinmindthattheoperatororuseris
responsibleforaccidentsorhazardsoccurringto
otherpeopleortheirproperty.
Donotcarrypassengers.
Alldriversandmechanicsshouldseekandobtain
professionalandpracticalinstruction.Theowneris
responsiblefortrainingtheusers.Suchinstruction
shouldemphasizethefollowing:

Controlofaride-onmachineslidingonaslope
willnotberegainedbytheapplicationofthe
brake.Themainreasonsforlossofcontrolare

Insufcientwheelgrip
Beingdriventoofast
Inadequatebraking
Thetypeofmachineisunsuitableforthe
task
Lackofawarenessoftheeffectofground
conditions,especiallyslopes
Incorrecthitchingandloaddistribution
Preparation
Wearappropriateclothing,includingeye
protection;substantial,slip-resistantfootwear;and
hearingprotection.Tiebacklonghair.Donot
wearjewelry.
Thoroughlyinspecttheareawheretheequipment
istobeusedandremoveallobjectswhichmaybe
thrownbythemachine.
Evaluatetheterraintodeterminewhataccessories
andattachmentsareneededtoproperlyand
safelyperformthejob.Useonlyaccessoriesand
attachmentsapprovedbythemanufacturer.
Checkthatoperator’spresencecontrols,safety
switches,andshieldsareattachedandfunctioning
properly.Donotoperatethemachineunlessthey
arefunctioningproperly.
Operation
Donotoperatetheengineinaconnedspace
wheredangerouscarbonmonoxideandother
exhaustgassescancollect.
Mowonlyindaylightoringoodarticiallight.
Beforeattemptingtostarttheengine,disengage
allbladeattachmentclutches,shiftintoneutral,
andengagetheparkingbrake.Onlystartthe
enginefromtheoperator’sposition.Neverremove
theROPSandalwaysweartheseatbeltsduring
operation.
Donotputhandsorfeetnearorunderrotating
parts.Keepclearofthedischargeopeningatall
times.
Rememberthatthereisnosuchthingasa
safeslope.Travelongrassslopesrequires
particularcare.Dothefollowingtoguardagainst
overturning:
Donotstoporstartsuddenlywhengoingup
ordownhill.
Keepmachinespeedslowonslopesand
duringtightturns.
Stayalertforhumpsandhollowsandother
hiddenhazards.
Nevermowacrossthefaceoftheslope,unless
themowerisdesignedforthispurpose.
Stayalertforholesintheterrainandotherhidden
hazards.
Watchoutfortrafcwhencrossingornear
roadways.
Stopthebladesfromrotatingbeforecrossing
surfacesotherthangrass.
