Thecrankcasemustbelledwithapproximately20
uidouncesofproperviscosityoilbeforestaring.The
engineusesanyhigh-qualityoilhavingtheAmerican
PetroleumInstitute-APl-“serviceclassication"SF,
SG,SHorSJ.Oilviscosity-weight-mustbeselected
accordingtoambienttemperature.Figure24illustrates
thetemperature/viscosityrecommendations.

Note:Usingmulti-gradeoils(5W-20,10W-30,and
10W-40)willincreaseoilconsumption.Checktheoil
levelmorefrequentlywhenusingthem.

Note:Thebesttimetochecktheengineoiliswhenthe
engineiscoolbeforeithasbeenstartedfortheday.Ifit
hasalreadybeenrun,allowtheoiltodrainbackdown
tothesumpforatleast10minutesbeforechecking.If
theoillevelisatorbelowthe“Lmarkonthedipstick,
addoiltobringtheoilleveltothe“H”mark.DONOT
OVERFILL.Iftheoillevelisbetweenthe“H”and“L
marks,nooiladditionisrequired.
1.Removethetransportwheels(ifinstalled),position
themowersotheengineislevelandcleanaroundoil
levelgauge(
