Subject: Availability of alternate Reel Bearing Seals.
These greens mowers use a single lip seal in the reel bearing application. The original
seal is effective in its intended purpose of retaining grease, however a service seal with
two additional lips is now available for improved performance against the entry of
moisture. When servicing your reels you may wish to consider using replacement
Service Seal (104-3388). Be sure to coat the seal lips heavily with grease during
installation for best results and to prevent damage to the seal lips at start up. This part
is available through your local Toro distributor.
Note: Even with the replacement Service Seal installed, Reel bearings require grease
at 25-hour intervals. In addition, grease fittings should be immediately lubricated
if the unit is washed to purge any moisture from behind the seals. Failure to do
so can result in contamination of the bearing bore that will cause rust, corrosion,
and premature bearing failure.
