BacklappingtheCutting
Units
WARNING
Contactwiththereelsorothermovingparts
canresultinpersonalinjury.
•Keepngers,hands,andclothingaway
fromthereelsorothermovingparts.
•Neverattempttoturnthereelsbyhandor
footwhiletheengineisrunning.
1.Positionthemachineonalevelsurface,lower
thecuttingunits,stoptheengineandengage
theparkingbrake.
2.Unlockandraisetheseattoexposethecontrols.
3.Makeinitialreeltobedknifeadjustments
appropriateforbacklappingonallcuttingunits
whicharetobebacklapped;refertotheCutting
UnitOperator'sManual.
DANGER
Changingtheenginespeedwhile
backlappingmaycausethereelstostall.
•Neverchangetheenginespeedwhile
backlapping.
•Onlybacklapatidleenginespeed.
4.Starttheengineandrunatlowidlespeed.
5.Rotatethebacklaplevertothe“R”position
(Figure59).
6.Rotatethereelspeedcontroltosetting1(Figure

7.Withthemow/transportleverintheneutral
position,movethelowermow/liftcontrolforward
tostartthebacklappingoperationonthe
designatedreels.
8.Applylappingcompoundwithalonghandle
brush.Neveruseashorthandledbrush.
9.Ifthereelsstallorbecomeerraticwhile
backlapping,selectahigherreelspeedsetting
untilthespeedstabilizes,thenreturnthereel
speedtosetting1ortoyourdesiredspeed.
10.Tomakeanadjustmenttothecuttingunitswhile
backlapping,turnthereelsoffbymovingthe
LowerMow/Raiseleverrearwardandstopthe
engine.Aftercompletingadjustments,repeat
steps4through8.
11.Repeattheprocedureforallcuttingunitsyou
wanttobacklap.
12.Whennished,returnthebacklapleversto
the"F"position,lowertheseat,andwashall
lappingcompoundoffofthecuttingunits.Adjust
cuttingunitreeltobedknifeasneeded.Move
thecuttingunitreelspeedcontroltothedesired
mowingposition.
Important:Ifthebacklapleveris
notreturnedtothe“F”positionafter
backlapping,thecuttingunitswillnotraise
orfunctionproperly.
