informationcouldhelpyouorbystandersavoidinjury.
Theuseofprotectiveequipment,suchasbutnot
limitedto,foreyes,ears,feet,andheadisrecommended.
Thismachineproducessoundlevelsinexcess
of85dBAattheoperator’searandcancause
hearinglossthroughextendedperiodsof
exposure.
Wearhearingprotectionwhenoperatingthis
machine.
CheckingtheEngineOil
Theengineisshippedwithoilinthecrankcase;
however,theoillevelmustbecheckedbeforeandafter
theengineisrststarted.
Crankcasecapacityisapproximately3.5quarts(3.3l)
withthelter.
Usehigh-qualityengineoilthatmeetsthefollowing
specications:
•APIClassicationLevelRequired:CH–4,CI–4or
higher.
•Preferredoil:SAE10W–30Alternateoil:SAE
5W–30
•Alternateoil:SAE5W–30
ToroPremiumEngineoilisavailablefromyour
distributorinthe10W–30viscosity.Seetheparts
catalogforpartnumbers.
Note:Thebesttimetochecktheengineoiliswhenthe
engineiscoolbeforeithasbeenstartedfortheday.Ifit
hasalreadybeenrun,allowtheoiltodrainbackdown
tothesumpforatleast10minutesbeforechecking.
Iftheoillevelisatorbelowthe“add”markonthe
dipstick,addoiltobringtheoilleveltothe“full”mark.
DONOTOVERFILL.Iftheoillevelisbetweenthe
“full”and“add”marks,nooiladditionisrequired.
Important:Besuretokeeptheengineoillevel
betweentheupperandlowerlimitsontheoil
gauge.Enginefailuremayoccurasaresultofover
llingorunderllingtheengineoil.
1.Positionthemachineonalevelsurface.
2.Removethedipstickandwipeitwithacleanrag
(Figure29).Pushthedipstickintothetubeand
makesureitisseatedfully.Removethedipstick
fromthetubeandcheckthelevelofoil.Iftheoil
levelislow,removethellercapfromthevalve
coverandslowlyaddenoughoiltoraisethelevel
totheFullmarkonthedipstick.Addtheoilslowly
andchecktheleveloftenduringthisprocess.Do
notoverll.
Important:Makesurethatthedipstickis
removedwhilellingtheenginewithoil.When
addingengineoilorllingoil,there
must
be
clearancebetweentheoillldeviceand
theoilllholeinthevalvecoverasshownin
Figure28.Thisclearanceisnecessarytopermit
ventingwhenlling,whichpreventsoilfrom
overrunningintobreather.
