ServicingtheAirCleaner
ServiceInterval:Every50hours
Checktheaircleanerbodyfordamagewhichcould
causeanairleak.Replaceifdamaged.Checkthe
wholeintakesystemforleaks,damageorloosehose
clamps.
Servicetheaircleanerlterbefore200hoursifthe
engineperformancesuffersduetoextremelydusty,
dirtyconditions.Changingtheairlterbeforeitis
necessaryonlyincreasesthechanceofdirtentering
theenginewhenthelterisremoved.
Besurethecoverisseatedcorrectlyandsealswith
theaircleanerbody.
1.Releasethelatchessecuringtheaircleanercoverto
theaircleanerbody(Figure44).

2.Removethecoverfromtheaircleanerbody.Before
removingthelter,uselowpressureair(40psi,
cleananddry)tohelpremovelargeaccumulations
ofdebrispackedbetweenoutsideofprimarylter
andthecanister.Avoidusinghighpressureairwhich
couldforcedirtthroughthelterintotheintake
tract.Thiscleaningprocesspreventsdebrisfrom
migratingintotheintakewhentheprimarylteris
removed.
3.Removeandreplacetheprimarylter.Cleaningof
theusedelementisnotrecommendedduetothe
possibilityofdamagetotheltermedia.Inspectthe
newlterforshippingdamage,checkingthesealing
endofthelterandthebody.Donotuseadamaged
element.Insertthenewlterbyapplyingpressureto
theouterrimoftheelementtoseatitinthecanister.
Donotapplypressuretotheexiblecenterofthe
lter.
4.Cleanthedirtejectionportlocatedintheremovable
cover.Removetherubberoutletvalvefromthe
cover,cleanthecavityandreplacetheoutletvalve.
5.Installthecoverorientingtherubberoutletvalvein
adownwardpositionbetweenapproximately5:00
to7:00whenviewedfromtheend.
6.Reinstallthecoverandsecurethelatches(Figure44).

1.Removethedrainplugandletoilowintoadrain
pan.Whentheoilstops,installthedrainplug.
2.Removetheoillter.Applyalightcoatofcleanoil
tothenewltergasket.
3.Screwthelteronbyhanduntilthegasketcontacts
thelteradapter,thentighten1/2to3/4turn
further.Donotovertighten.
4.Addoiltothecrankcase;refertoCheckingthe
EngineOil.
5.Disposeoftheusedoilproperly.
AdjustingtheThrottleControl
Properthrottleoperationisdependentuponproper
adjustmentofthethrottlecontrol.Beforeadjustingthe
carburetor,ensurethatthethrottlecontrolisoperating
properly.
1.MovetheremotethrottlecontrollevertotheSlow
position.
2.Loosenthecableclampscrewsecuringthecableto
theengine(Figure45).
