TrainingPeriod
Beforemowinggreenswiththemachine,itisrecommended
thatyoundaclearareaandpracticestartingandstopping,
raisingandloweringthecuttingunits,turning,etc.This
trainingperiodwillbebenecialtotheoperatoringaining
condenceintheperformanceofthemachine.
BeforeMowing
Inspectthegreenfordebris,removetheagfromthecup,
anddeterminethebestdirectiontomow .Basethedirection
tomowonthepreviousmowingdirection.Alwaysmowinan
alternatepatternfromthepreviousmowingsothatthegrass
bladeswillbelessapttolaydownandthereforebedifcult
totrapbetweenthereelbladesandbedknife.
MowingProcedures
1.ApproachthegreenwiththeshiftselectorintheNo.
1position.Startononeedgeofthegreensothatthe
ribbonprocedureofcuttingmaybeused.Thisholds
compactiontoaminimumandleavesaneat,attractive
patternonthegreens.
2.Actuatethemowpedalasthefrontedgeofthe
grassbasketscrosstheouteredgeofthegreen.This
proceduredropsthecuttingunitstotheturfandstarts
thereels.
Important:Familiarizeyourselfwiththefactthat
theNo.1cuttingunitreelisdelayedandtherefore,
youshouldpracticetotrytogaintherequired
timingnecessarytominimizethecleanupmowing
operation.
3.Overlapaminimalamountwiththepreviouscut
onreturnpasses.Toassistinmaintainingastraight
lineacrossthegreenandkeepthemachineanequal
distancefromtheedgeofthepreviouscut,establishan
imaginarysightlineapproximately6to10ft(1.8to
3m)aheadofthemachinetotheedgeoftheuncut
portionofthegreen(
Figure39).Somenditusefulto
includetheouteredgeofthesteeringwheelaspartof
thesightline;i.e.keepthesteeringwheeledgealigned
withapointthatisalwayskeptthesamedistanceaway
fromthefrontofthemachine(Figure39).

andliftthecuttingunits.Timingofthisprocedureis
important,sothemowersdonotcutintothefringe
area.However,asmuchofthegreenaspossibleshould
becuttominimizetheamountofgrasslefttomow
aroundtheouterperiphery
5.Cutdownonoperatingtimeandeaselineupforthe
nextpassbymomentarilyturningthemachineinthe
oppositedirection,thenturninginthedirectionof
theuncutportion;i.e.,ifintendingtoturnright,rst
swingslightlyleft,thenright.Thiswillassistingetting
themachinemorequicklyalignedforthenextpass.
Followthesameprocedureforturningintheopposite
direction.Itisagoodpracticetotrytomakeasshort
ofaturnaspossible.However,turninawiderarc
duringwarmerweathertominimizethepossibilityof
bruisingtheturf.
