Subject: Breather Tube Replacement Prevents Engine Damage
When refilling or “toping up” engine oil, if the oil is added too rapidly, the oil level in the
valve cover chamber may rise above the breather tube outlet. If this condition occurs,
clean oil may be ingested into the cylinders, via the intake manifold, which may result in
hydraulic lock and can cause serious engine damage.
To prevent this from occurring, install a new Breather Tube (104-7743) on all products
listed above. This tube has a molded loop that is positioned upward to prevent oil from
flowing into the air intake manifold.
1. Remove the old breather tube connecting the intake manifold to the outlet on the
valve cover.
2. Install new Breather Tube with loop oriented upward as shown below.
IMPORTANT NOTICE!! If you receive this information before the tube is available,
gently clamp the original tube closed while adding oil to the crankcase. Follow the
additional instructions printed on the Customer Service Bulletin dated October 11, 2000.
