Situation:

With the recent release of the Toro EdgeSeries reels and EdgeSeries service reels that fit cutting

units made prior to the introduction of the EdgeSeries reel assembly, it is important to match reels

of the same design to one traction unit. Mixing reels of different design on the same traction unit

could result in an undesirable After-Cut Appearance (ACA).

Instructions:

This bulletin outlines methods to identify an EdgeSeries reel as compared to the standard Toro

reel. Please ensure ‘like’ reels are used on the same traction unit. Figure 1 contains the form

included in the box with EdgeSeries service reels. Figures 2 – 3 explain methods to identify and

EdgeSeries reel vs. standard reels for Fairway and Greens applications.

Fairway Reel Identification: The Fairway reels can be identified solely by the profile of the reel blades. The EdgeSeries reel has a tapered blade while the standard reel has a milled relief on the back of the blade. Figure 2 – Fairway Reel Blade Profiles Greens Reel Identification: The 8 and 11 blade greens reels can be identified by the number of blades in contact with the bedknife at one time. The geometry of the 14 blade reel is shared on both the EdgeSeries and the standard reel.
